Despite only really playing at the weekend due to working I'm now 180k through Level 31. Today I cheated somewhat. The M25 was stationary, so I opened the app and left it on. I had 8 eggs cooking and between junctions 18 and 22 managed to hatch 7 of them. Mantine, 2x Exegcute, Krabby, Eevee, Togepi and Magby.

Congrats Abbey on reaching Level 30, and commiserations Spammy on not being able to log in.

Bloody gorgeous Donphan, they really do the business.

They roll around in little balls and smash everything around them.

Another one for the dex PickAChew, whar are you up to now?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 23:00

Oh I love Donphan! Such a shame that one has normal/fairy moves though Sad

It's a beast when its got ground moves.

Fairy is only good against dark, dragon and fighting, and there aren't too many of those around.

PickAChew · 30/06/2017 22:55

Donphan. Lovely donphan.

Yeah I get it was connection issues with the Network Error thing I was just surprised that was how it worked, for want of a better word. I would have expected it to just kick you out if you weren't connected for the battle. Not complaining, I got Tyranitar, rare candy and golden razzberries so I'm happy, as is DS who was at school at the time. I think only 3 of the 7 of us caught it in the end.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 22:52

a disappointingly fire/dark Houndoom (my other is fire/fire)

What you really want is a dark/dark Houndoom; they're one of the best dark in the game. So if you get a TM, it might be worth rerolling the fire move to try to get a dark one (only if it's a good Houndoom though).

That's what I'm probably going to do with my fire/dark Houndoom Smile

PickAChew · 30/06/2017 22:49

I can't remember off the top of my head what moves my Donphan has, but it's truly berserk when it's fighting!!!

After a long delayed lucky egg session, I'm now the proud mother to a Tyranitar (needs lots of powering up - all of my larvitars have been hatched), two typhlosions and a disappointingly fire/dark Houndoom (my other is fire/fire)

I've been tagging all my best battle mon with they type of skills they know. Amused by Ursaring having fairy moves :o

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 22:46

TrashPanda It's just connection issues, that's all. Nothing nefarious or out of the ordinary.

TrashPanda · 30/06/2017 22:44

I did a raid this afternoon with a group of trainers I'd never met before. 7 of us did Tyranitar. Arranged through the local Facebook group. Mine did something really weird though.

I was selecting the Pokemon to use and changed 5 of the 6, tried to change the last one and got Network Error. It started the battle and I could see the others' Pokemon and my damage bar was going down a little bit as was Tyranitars. Then everyone else said they had defeated it but it was still up and going on my screen. Thought maybe I'd somehow managed to get into a battle by myself, but no, it showed the right number of participants.

Network Error kep coming up and I kept going, my damage bar stayed exactly as it was when everyone else had finished but I kept clicking away and slowly but surely Tyranitar went down to yellow then red, then dead. Then it seemed to go back to working as normal. Said I had won, gave me 6 revives, 3 golden razzberries and 2 rare candy with 3k XP. Clicked on go to bonus round and caught him with my first ball. Have a lovely 2024 Tyranitar with the best defensive moveset, so chuffed, even though I don't understand what happened. Have 83 candy so will evolve Pupitar now.

Walking Togepi still but up to 42 candy, nearly there. Hatched a Scyther but still only on 19 candy so that will be next to walk. Up to 105 Mareep candy for Flaafy and Ampharos, will take an age to walk, even with our 8 rare candy, but then we'll have them all.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 22:43

If you still don't believe me, BumWad, it's easy to prove.

Next time you gym, pick an obvious effective/not effective duo (i.e. If battling a grass Pokemon, use a fire Pokemon with fire moves; if battling a fire Pokemon, use a water Pokemon with water moves).

If using a fire against grass, "super effective" will appear over the grass Pokemon because your fire type and it's fire moves are super effective against grass (because fire burns grass!).

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 22:35

Bollocks I always thought it was the other way round?

Nope. If I'm fighting a Gyarados with my Jolteon, it will say Super Effective on the Gyarados (because he's weak to water) and Not Effective on the Jolteon (because he's super effective against water).

BumWad · 30/06/2017 22:32

Whatever words appear over your Pokemon is whether that Pokemon is good against you or not. You want it to say "not effective" over your Pokemon, because if it says "super effective", you should switch!

Bollocks I always thought it was the other way round?

Confused
WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 21:41

That's strange; I haven't been having any problems with charged moves.

Icouldbeknitting · 30/06/2017 21:38

I think the charged move issue is a new thing, I hope so anyway because it has changed recently. The bar fills and sparkles, I do a long press.....and nothing happens. I swear and do it again and the second time it works. I've not changed, my phone hasn't changed so I'm hoping that a future update will return things as they were. Failing that I'll learn to do two long presses.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 20:42

SomewhatIdiosyncratic When battling, continually pressing uses up the fast moves. More fast moves charges up your charged move, and when that second bar (or bars in some cases) is full, hold your finger down for a couple of seconds to activate your charged move.

But you might already know that and it might just be your phone Smile

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 30/06/2017 20:37

I struggle to activate the big moves. I'm not sure if that's connected with the diagonal crack across my screen! Sometimes it pulls up the switch pokemon box, but mainly results in dodging around.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 19:41

WhatToDo oh okay good thing I didn't try that then!

My Donphan has earthquake and my Rhydon has stone edge. They're fairly decent aren't they?.

With the electric vs water thing, think of it like this: if you drop a toaster into a bath, whatever is in there is going to die! So electric is good against water.

Stone Edge is a great move, but it's a rock move, so it's not ground and therefore electric isn't weak against it.

Earthquake, another great move, is a ground move and therefore super effective against electric!

What are your fast moves for Donphan and Rhydon?

Tip: when you fight, you can tell if your Pokemon is any good against the other as over the other Pokemon it will say "Super Effective!" (so keep going!) or "Not Effective!" (Switch Pokemon immediately!).

Whatever words appear over your Pokemon is whether that Pokemon is good against you or not. You want it to say "not effective" over your Pokemon, because if it says "super effective", you should switch!

DameDeDoubtance · 30/06/2017 19:22

I loved walking togepi, so cute!

I'm walking a pupitar at the mo, just a weird spiky...thing!

Only 2 candys till I can evolve it though. I got a bayleef in a raid today and a rare candy which saved me 5k.

Also snagged 2 more totodiles which I am well chuffed with. The gps is very dodgy where the nest is but it's a beautiful spot by a river so there are worst places to wait. My dex is up to 220 now.

Does anyone know when the next nest changes are?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 30/06/2017 18:20

I found a totodile shadow and caught it Grin

I've got a Muk from a raid today. That's my second after walking Grimer for candy for many miles a couple of months ago. I'm much happier walking togepi in my arms Wink

The other search tip I've picked up is that you can put the type in. Handy for raids. If I'm not sure what the weakness is, I do a quick search on the pokemon database site. It makes a big difference for raids and tough pokemon.

I'm enjoying battles more now than the early days when I only stood a chance with an army of vaporeans.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 16:02

I saw a trainer in the flesh today but was disappointed to find that he wasn't local, it was a name I'd not seen before. I scuttled past without making eye contact.

Ha ha Grin

I have an album in my phone that are just photos of regular Pokemon players in our town with their names above them, so I know whose who Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 16:00

cottonwool125 No! Electric is strong against flying and water so never, ever use water against electric!

Electric is only weak to ground, so Rhydon and Donphan were good choices (assuming they have ground moves).

The rest are neutral, so unless you have other Pokemon with ground moves they were okay choices.

You should always go with the Pokemon with the best moves/type rather than your strongest, as it's more effective that way.

Icouldbeknitting · 30/06/2017 15:18

I didn't realise the mighty wonder that is the search box, you can search your Pokemon by type which is really handy when you're trying to find the best attacker for a gym.

cottonwool125 · 30/06/2017 14:58

Dame I hope so! I was so close but it was the time that ran out rather than defeating all of my Pokemon in my team Sad

WhatToDo what Pokemon should I have used? I probably made the rookie mistake of using my strongest Pokemon regardless of the type (Archanine x2, Donphan, Typhlosion, Houndoom and Rhydon). Should I have used water types?

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 30/06/2017 12:28

Yeah, I have read that, and that might very well be the case, the rumor mill is usually fairly accurate. I was just looking for something more official (although I know Niantic are buggers for announcements). That quote is extrapolated from something else, and I wanted to know what the 'something else' was.

On another note I am totally pissed off with myself today after fucking up a raid in a spectacular fashion. Arrggghh.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 12:14

Quote from the article I posted, PsammeadPaintedTheLion:

If you join enough Raid Battles you’ll eventually receive a Legendary Raid Pass. These will almost certainly be used to fight Legendary monsters when Niantic rolls that feature out.
