It looked like a new thread was needed, so here it is, all shiny and pristine.

It wil count to some degree

But it helps to have data because it's easier to just log in and then walk. Not stop every few moments and log in. As soon as you are out of the wifi area, Pokemon will crash

BelfastSmile · 04/06/2017 13:23

Thanks. @WhatToDoAboutThis2017. I'm not sure I have any ambition to be a serious player, but we'll see!

I quite like just catching a few Pokémon when I'm out and about!

FreeNiki · 04/06/2017 13:21

Yay. I need Cyndaquil and Houndor. Only have one of each.

BelfastSmile · 04/06/2017 13:21

Thanks! I'll spin it next time I'm past!

I have WiFi codes for every cafe, library and shop that I can lay my hands on, so I can walk down the road and be online most of the time- would that count?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 04/06/2017 13:19

BelfastSmile Pokestops have already been explained by PP, but since you're new, don't upgrade (power up/evolve) just yet! You'll need your stardust if you want to be a serious player.

It's not worth powering up anything until you get past Level 20, as the Pokemon are just too low level otherwise.

And you power up the Pokemon you want to use to fight in gyms. Only select Pokemon should be powered up because you get so little stardust.

Soubriquet · 04/06/2017 13:14

When you click on the pokestops, it brings up the picture. You need to spin it

Soubriquet · 04/06/2017 13:13

Pokestops are needing because it gives you your streaks for special items (like a kings rock) and it gives you more items such a small poke balls and eggs

You will run out of pokeballs and you do need data

You walk eggs to hatch and you find more Pokemon as you walk about

BelfastSmile · 04/06/2017 13:10

I've just started playing, and I'm still not really sure how it works (haven't previously played any Pokemon games, though DH has).

Also don't have a data allowance, so can only play when I'm on WiFi.

So far I'm just collecting Pokémon when I turn the app on and they're there. I upgraded some of them because it said I could, but don't really know why I'd want to! Will I run out of the candy I need for ugrades? Will I run out of pokeballs?

I've a poke stop nearby which also has free WiFi, but I'm not sure what I'm meant to do. I found some extra Pokémon there, but nothing else different from playing at home. I clicked on the stop on my phone, but it just showed me a picture of the building - nothing I could interact with. What am I meant to do?

I'm ignoring gyms for now until I figure out Poke stops!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 04/06/2017 12:41

Aww yay! I absolutely need more charmander and cyndaquills!

Soubriquet · 04/06/2017 12:37

Thanks to our friends at Team Eevolution (who are credited to leaking previous event information)

They have leaked the entire announcement.

“Trainers,

With summer quickly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and winter approaching in the Southern Hemisphere, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the upcoming solstices than with a Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon GO event.

From 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 13 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 20, 2017, Trainers around the world will discover more Charmander, Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Houndour, Ponyta, Swinub, Vulpix, and their Evolutions. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Sneasel, Magmar, Cloyster, and other Fire-types and Ice types!

It’s time to perfect your Poké Ball throws, Trainers! Throughout the event, you’ll receive huge XP bonuses for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, as well as Curveballs and First Throws. Additionally, as you walk around your neighborhoods or discover new sights, you’ll earn even more XP for hatching Eggs. To help you take advantage of these awesome XP bonuses, Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop.

Get ready to explore the world around you—there are even more exciting updates coming your way soon!

—The Pokémon GO team”

Well, this look pretty legit as the same folks were previously leaked information about the Double XP event as well.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 04/06/2017 08:18

Thanks Mudding Smilehopefully I can catch enough this week to evolve him a final time.

MuddlingMackem · 04/06/2017 00:02

Alice, they change every second Thursday.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 03/06/2017 20:38

Does anyone know how long these 'nests' stay around for? My local park has been bulbasaur heaven today. Caught 6 within 5 minutes and saw plenty more on sightings as I left. Caught 4 in the same park earlier too. Do you think they might be there again tomorrow or should I pop back out now and grab as many as I can?

CrazedZombie · 03/06/2017 18:55

Are the gen 2 starters 5k?

CrazedZombie · 03/06/2017 18:54

Thought this might be handy.

Been away for a few days in Wales. The phone signal was generally quite weak, but I've managed to keep my streaks up. The big bonus was a load of Voltorbs hanging around Barmouth. I've managed to evolve them before with eggs and walking candy, so in one afternoon to go from catching my first wild one to getting enough to evolve (some help from pineaps) was pretty good Grin

Soubriquet · 03/06/2017 12:23

Sad my network isn't working so well so I couldn't do it yesterday and I can't do it today

FreeNiki · 03/06/2017 11:42

Caught just now Grin

I'm very proud of my snorlax.. just claimed my 3rd lot of coins after holding the gym for 48 hours now...and still going Grin

TrashPanda · 02/06/2017 09:04

There are bits of Florida where you can get Corsola and Tauros too I think.

Caught a Dragonite yesterday, so excited, Gen1 is done now. Driving back from school and past a park, which is supposed to be Scyther after nest migration, to see if they showed on nearby. Turned into a side road to turn round and DS shouted that there was a Dragonite, 2 razzberries and 2 ultraballs and he was in. Rubbish appraisal but only need 2 candy to get a better one now rather than 12 at 5k each, much more achievable. Only 8 from Gen2 to get now.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 02/06/2017 06:27

Yup, that's the South American regional! Not jealous at all. Honest.

RudeDog · 02/06/2017 04:03

I've caught this today in Florida - I think it's a regional?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 01/06/2017 21:05

had my first ever abra yesterday but the bloody thing ran away!

The thing with Abra is that if you don't get it in the first poke ball, it always runs away, so regardless of CP if you want to guarentee it you should be using a razz berry and an ultra ball.
