What board game are you playing - chat thread

I've been tempted by the Mad King Ludwig castles game - would you say it's good for 2, sometimes 3 players?

The one I'm currently lusting after is called Kanagawa, it's by Iello and it looks absolutely beautiful. I love anything Japan themed (in fact I'm running a games table at a small Japancon next month) and I love the art of Hokusai which inspired the game.

Got Mad King Ludwig for Christmas and it's good once you get past the rules being written really densely. Making mad castle layouts is a lot of fun. Can be played as solitaire too.

Currently liking Dream Home although only plays up to 4 - and Fabled Fruit - lovely art work and game mechanism clever in that you have different starting cards each game so have to rethink tactics!!

Popping back in to say that we've been playing Port Royal and Splendour non-stop this half term and both were recommended by someone (vijkul?) on this thread so big thanks I'm the current champion at Port Royal, ds1 at Splendour.

Also been playing a few games of Lords of Waterdeep, been enjoying that too. Honours are about even on that one, so far!

I've got loads of new games recently, I'd saved up some of my spends money and had an ebay splurge. Loving Patchwork especially.

Just wanted to come back and say that we finally played Ticket to Ride which was bought for Xmas in your recommendations and we all really enjoyed it so thank you.

Has anyone played Rock, Paper, Wizard yet? I recently bought a copy, but haven't yet had enough people to play it (min 3).

Caffeine It so would! we found the adults got the most competitive .Haba games are great for kids/families I've found.

We are big on the Qwirckle - but looking forward to trying out some of the ideas on this thread.

Eitak22 Rhino Hero has gone down a storm thanks! Think it would also make a great drinking game (maybe not for the 3 yr old). Will check out my first carcassonne too.

Adult wise - probably already mentioned but just played forbidden desert and loved it. Also game of thrones Hand of the King is a great short game, easy to play and learn but enough strategy to be really engaging.

Not sure about 3yo really for any of the ones I mentioned in my recent list. Worth looking at My First Carcassonne though!

Game cafe was fun. Played Star Wars dobble - was a hoot and a half as none of us really know SW well so it was like "red guy" and "dude with the stick" 😂 My mum hadn't even played regular dobble before but she did admirably and actually really enjoyed it.

Also played Callisto, which was fun strategy wise but TBH really not that well made as the pieces kept popping up when they didn't fit together. So wouldn't buy it.

Pick a Dog was adorable, I took it off my wishlist recently but I may put it back on! We have a lot of visual perception type games though.

Didn't have much time to play though as the kids were flagging a bit after a long day and we got waylaid by a random crotchety woman slagging us off for home educating but we did a couple of kid games as well and I also had a nose through the Zooloretto box and now I want it more than ever!

Back at mum's we played Randomise again, my parents both enjoyed it and they usually aren't game people so that's a big win. DD couldn't sleep so took the box to bed with her to draw some on her own. I've also decided that one of our English 'lessons' next week will be based around the game :o

We got Pandemic for Christmas, played it through twice on NYE. I liked it a lot, but I found the limit on player cards (and therefore turns) frustrating as the 'win' point felt unfinished. I also got a vague sense that there's a loophole to do with which roles you get, somehow. Did I miss something?

desperately i have remembered the name of the other Haba game, Knuckling Knights and the site i found it on said its easy for prescholers to set up so may be another game worth exploring.

Oooh I'm excited. We are staying at mum's for a few nights and have a spare day on Thursday. I remembered I'd promised the kids that I'd take them to the board game cafe in town at some point so we are going to do that! Will be bloody hard though as I have banned myself from buying any board games this month.

desperatelyseekingcaffeine I like Rhino Hero, have played it with my niece and nephew when they were 4 and 7. You build a tower out of cards following pattern on previous cards and the idea is the person who knocks it over loses. Its a lovely Haba game who do great games for children, i played another with nights and a dice tower but cannot remember the name.

Zoowaboo lovely game for kids involving guessing if the selection of wooden animals will fit into the rafts. Easy to play but quite fun for adults (and showed how bad our spatial awareness was)

Forgot we also took Ratuki to my friend's - hadn't played it before and I'd bought it uber cheap to get free delivery on Amazon, it was under £3 :o it is the German version but the only difference it makes is that some of the cards have 1-5 written in German. Nice little game.

Taking that to my parents' as we are staying a few days and also Monster Cafe as I want to get to grips with it more

Loving this thread though have no space for new games! Can recommend exploding kittens for quick easy game play especially with non gamers.

The hit this Christmas with my 3 year old was Dobble he loves it! Also played Zoowaboo in a game cafe. Any recommendations for other games that he could play that don't require reading or complicated rules/long set up?
