What board game are you playing - chat thread

We've played Marvel Legendary, Splendour and Small world this weekend,we are a bit addicted to Splendour. Dh and I played Jaipur earlier in the week

We are new to the stations but our method is that you put it on the city in question and you can borrow one route out of that city. I like theidea of straddling the route but you'd have to be clear which city they were at?

I have found I can annoy the DC immensely by calling the stations "hotels". All adds to the pleasure .

Do you think Jaipur would work with the DCs joining us on teams? :)

I've never tried Hanabi with 2 players.

Hoping our next game night will be around DH's birthday in a couple of weeks, if DSCs are all free. :)

Played a bit more Jaipur but I am yet to win, not sure if I am completely rubbish at it or just unlucky!
DH and I had a good game of Hanabi after though which made me feel a bit better - perfect score :)

Need to get some friends over for a games night but we're about to have some work done on our house so might be a bit tricky, keep saying I will do a family games afternoon one weekend with friends but haven't got around to it yet! Birthday coming up at the beginning of March so that might be a good excuse.

We're enjoying Agricola at the moment. Carcassonne is a longstanding favourite, might get the prehistoric version for DD2 for her birthday.

I keep a record of scores in Hanabi.

The TTR stations - are you supposed to put them on the actual station circles, or do they go over an existing train on the line you need, IYSWIM? As I thought the latter made more sense so it's clearer what line you are borrowing.

After years of playing the US TTR I bought the Europe one over Christmas. It's subtlety different and as someone up thread commented, different strategies win. The personal stations make it much harder for ruthless blockers .
We now have a spreadsheet of scores......

Phantom Society arrived! Not tried it yet but it looks fine for the DCs which is a bonus. Basically like a board game version of hide and seek.

I also ordered Aquarius which I've had my eye on for ages, and it suddenly dropped in price.

Haven't had a chance to go to the game shop yet, to try and swap the duplicate presents we got, not sure what we will get if they let us swap.

Need to play Forbidden Island with the DCs so we can do the thank you card too.

I mostly play with ds1, who is 12 and both competitive and switched on when it comes to games - he likes to win . DH will join in sometimes, but he's not as competitive, so it's not as much fun beating him when he doesn't put up much of a fight!

Our new 2 player games are Jaipur and Battleline. I enjoyed Jaipur more to start with, the pieces and cards are lovely and the game is easy to learn and fun to play. Battleline is growing on me as I get the hang of it, but I've yet to beat ds1 more than one in three games.

We've all enjoyed Camel Up, and it was a big hit when my niece and nephew joined us over New Year. They also enjoyed Exploding Kittens - which for some reason my dm calls Murdering Kittens, so that's what we call it now . Lots of laughing during both those games, despite the competition to win.

And (I feel like I've typed an essay here, sorry) I've got my eye on Bohnanza and Lords of Waterdeep next.

Oooh, I played the UK map of TtR on Tuesday - it was great :)

Ticket to ride is the bomb in our house we have some great family evenings with that one! would definitely recommend it to anyone, also not my favourite my second child loves settlers of catan!

More boardgames is never a bad thing!

I've organised our games cupboards today - decided to devote the sideboard to the purpose. Unfortunately we aren't even close to fitting all the games in but it does mean more are downstairs which is where we play. Hopefully that will equal more game playing and less mindless screen time

Favourite game over Christmas was Star Wars Labyrinth
Favourite card game was Hobbit Love Letter.

Both were MN recommendations

We also played a lot of Quirkle, Bananagrams and have resurrected Rapidough which was a HUGE success yesterday :o

Taking notes as DH is a HUGE gamer (and has trained us all well :)) and he has a big birthday next month.

Yesterday DSS was here so we played Castle Panic. Really liked it! We lost, but we hadn't realised you could discard and pick a new card every turn if you wanted, so I think we'd have been better if we'd done that. DS really liked it but DD kept wandering off.

We also played TTR, first time we've played with less than 4 so not being able to use the double tracks threw us a bit.

And we finally tried Gormenghast which has been sitting in the cupboard unused for a really long time. Oh good grief it is INSANELY complicated. We nearly gave up before we really started, but persevered for a little while and agreed to play first to 3VP instead of 9. I have a feeling it'll be hard to persuade anyone to play again with me which is a shame as I think it's one of those games you have to play a good few times to get to grips with.

In other news, I've still got some Christmas money that is burning a hole in my pocket. Some of the things I was going to buy with it aren't available ATM so I may well use more on games! Unfortunately I'm not going to the nearby town for a while, or I'd just turn up with the cash and ask the lovely, knowledgable guys there to tell me what to buy with it :o

My DSD has that Monopoly Empire. It's just about the only Monopoly game I'm willing to play, I hate the regular one (we do have the express dice version which is cool but have lost some pieces)

We've played loads of Splendour over the last few days, it's just so easy and so frustrating when you come close to winning that you want to play again

Just finished February

We got Monopoly Empire for Christmas which is a bit odd but much faster than the normal game. DS loves it. I am a bit sceptical. I think it will date horribly, with the branding, and I find that some factors are way simplified. But DS (7) loves it and it's fun enough to play a family game which doesn't take forever and doesn't get too repetitive.

Yes they love Uno :) we have a few different card games like that but haven't played any that use a normal deck of cards IYSWIM. Knew lots myself when I was a kid but can't remember any now!
