I preordered from Amazon and it came today, played for a couple of hours while the small one was at nursery now waiting for everyone to go to bed so I can continue!

So far I'm missing DJ Three Dog but everything else is spot on.

I'm Minuteman, Railroad and Brotherhood atm

sneakyhobbitses · 11/01/2016 13:08

PS4 player here - I'm level 30 (I think? Not sure which is embarrassing since I spent four hours on it yesterday). It really is very addictive! Though the Salem quest has scared the bejesus out of me. I died twice and then ran away. I'll come back to that when I've got a nuke or something...

Which factions has everyone signed onto? I've done quests for all three and technically "joined" but the Minutemen are so dull and Brotherhood of Steel too preachy. Railroad however I quite like Grin

with the hacking terminals, it's relatively easy to work out the codes.

The "Likeness" means you have the correct letter, in the correct place.

SO if the password is actually 'LIKE' And you enter DOVE - you'll get likeness = 1.

Just look for similar words and work it out.

Also, just exit the terminal after the third guess and re-enter to try agin. (saves the 10 second lockout)

:)

the guy on pasta's vid, is definitley PC and cheating. :)

00100001 · 11/01/2016 13:00

Ooooh, I've found you all!

I'm only level 16 - but loving it.

My DH keeps wondering how I have quests he doesn't have

Nightstalker · 09/01/2016 04:14

Oh yeah and my first proper character (2nd overall) was a female scientist that used power armour and a Gatling laser with charging barrels so it become a slow firing laser mini gun with around 50000 shots (fusion cores + nuclear physicist) that does 70 damage and a plasma sniper rifle with 240 damage

Nightstalker · 09/01/2016 04:11

You can also just heal up at a doctor to cure radiation poisoning. If you need any more tips and locations of stuff ask me in this thread (don't know how pms work) I have over 150 hours in the game and access to the developer console (pc)

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 08/01/2016 15:07

I'm on xbox Becca.

To make radaway I think if you find a cooking stove then the menu will tell you how? You might need to level up in the perks with a medical one, although I'm a bit hazy on that. I play on easy so I'm overflowing with stimpacks, radaway and rad-x!

(incidentally am I famous now that MNHQ have commented on my thread?!)

BeccaMumsnet · 08/01/2016 09:16

How do you make RadAway?? Shock I have so much to learn.

That settlement is amazing. Which console are you on Felicia?

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 07/01/2016 22:10

isn't me but what a fab Sanctuary. Mine is shit, just cleared out the ruined houses and all I have built is a couple of turrets, guard posts, bell and teleporter.
FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 07/01/2016 18:54

I didn't know about the hacking! Thanks for that.

I'm going to play it now, I want to bed McCready! Grin

Owl I've got a few settlements now but I'm really shit at building them.

OP posts:
Pastamancer · 07/01/2016 18:50

I knew about the hacking as it was the same in Fallout New Vegas. You can make your own RadAway but as you get further in the game you end up finding more

BeccaMumsnet · 07/01/2016 17:34

Ah amazing, thanks Pastamancer. I knew about the perks, but not about the hacking tips. I'm not advanced enough for that yet! I do like the design of the perks menu.

I'm playing as a female, who currently needs lots of RadAway and can't find any Grin

OwlCurrency · 07/01/2016 17:20

Thanks for the tips, pasta.

You know what I found inexplicable was the crafting menu. I stood at the table for ages wondering why I couldn't make a bed. Then realised that I was supposed to walk to place it somewhere...

I'm glad no one was watching me play it!

Pastamancer · 07/01/2016 17:03

A couple of thoughts, apologies if you already know these but they may be helpful.

Hacking terminals:
When you get the screen and have to guess the password, there will be lots of random characters. If you can see an open and close bracket in order on the same line without any words in between them then you can choose that and it will either remove an incorrect option or reset the number of tries you have. The type of brackets this works with are . (), {} and []. Hope that makes sense, if you choose a valid bracket the it will automatically highlight the whole thing so you know you can choose it. This isn't really needed for novice but makes the tough ones much easier.

Perks:
Each time you level up you can choose a different perk. You don't have to go down the columns in order so if there is a perk you want that is the 4th one down you don't have to choose 1-3 first. DH and I didn't realise this at first and ended up wasting a load of perk points on things we didn't really need at first

OwlCurrency · 07/01/2016 16:17

I hope it's not needed! I'm such a coward that I won't go back to look for it until I have levelled up hugely.

Is everyone playing as a female character?

HannahWMumsnet · 07/01/2016 13:16

Ooh! I didn't know this was here - I bought a PS4 just after Christmas with my money and Fallout 4 was my first purchase Grin I'm perhaps a third of the way through it? Not sure really, I like to do all the side quests before trundling on with the main storyline! At the moment I'm travelling with Hancock who I find hysterical. Nick Valentine is fabulous too!

BeccaMumsnet · 07/01/2016 13:11

Oh and also yy to not bothering with power armour. Don't worry about using it OwlCurrency, it's not needed for the majority of the game.

BeccaMumsnet · 07/01/2016 13:05

Can I join in? Just started yesterday and it ate my day off Grin

Pastamancer · 06/01/2016 21:50

I don't bother with power armour normally, I only used it for fighting the initial deathclaw until the fusion core ran out and then used another set to travel across the glowing sea to Virgil. Pretty much the whole point of the game is just wandering around exploring and picking up side quests. There is a main story quest to follow but that is only a tiny part of the game.

McCready is very happy to share a bed with me, even single ones so not gay. DH is a right perv though and is in a relationship with Curie, she isn't even human

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 20:24

That's what I'm struggling with. I wandered one way and got eaten. Then wandered the other and had to ditch the suit that was out of power and run for it.

I'm now in Sanctuary making the first camp, but I have had to Google a lot of it.

I got Skyrim and found it so big that I was paralysed with indecision. I want to stick with this though!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 06/01/2016 19:01

Owl you'll find loads on your wanderings don't worry. You'll get into it more once the basics are laid down and you can just wander about looking for quests and stuff.

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 18:52

I've been playing this game this week. I'm sort of struggling to get into it. I'm just at the very start. Haven't played any other Fallout games.

I have lost my big robot suit though. Do you think I will have to keep searching until I find it or can I make another?
