Missing money

My DP had some money in the bedroom and says some has gone missing. He thinks it must have been my DD14. She has never ever given any reason for him to think this however she was watching TV in our room and when she left he went upstairs and came back down to say some had gone missing. He hasn’t come out right and said it was her but his check straight after she’d been in there says that he’s thinking it.
I know damn well DD wouldn’t have taken it but when she was in the bath earlier I did a thorough check of her bedroom and nothing is in there. She hasn’t left the house so if she’d taken it I would have found it. I feel sick that I even searched tbh.
so I’m not drip feeding we also had 2 workmen in the room a few days ago but I very much doubt it was him. The most likely thing is DP has taken some and forgotten but he will not accept that scenario. I’m gutted that my DP even suspected my DD and not sure where to go from here?

I'm suspicious about why he was suspicious and immediately checked after your DD had left the room.

Either he keeps close tabs on his cash, knew exactly how much was there and checked after the workmen were in the house too, or he is mistaken or setting her up.

I think £60 is a lot of money for a 14 year old to steal, if they have been trustworthy to date. Probably worth a chat with her in case she has something going on that could cause her to feel she has no option but to steal, but I think it's unlikely and that your partner is more likely wrong or mistaken.

Many moons ago my dp accused my ds of stealing money..
Further down the line it became apparent it had been dp
.and it wasn't a one off.

NorwegianForest · 22/10/2026 15:16

Does your DP accept that as you did a thorough search and DD hasn't left the house then it can't be her? Or does he still think it's her?

Sidebeforeself · 22/10/2026 15:12

Well you clearly don’t trust your DP either? Either he’s lying … why? Or mistaken.. in which case it’s not unreasonable for him to ask about the money. Or it’s true and someone has taken it!

I searched purely so I could say to DP that I’d done that. I knew I wouldn’t find any

You will probably never find out who took it or if it even was taken and thats a horrible position to be in. Your dp will have to stop storing cash at the house. Its horrible to live like that. How much money are we talking about?

You weren't 100% sure it wasn't her either or you wouldn't have checked her room 🤷‍♂️

I don't see why that's ok for you but not for him?
