Toxic friend or justified?

Apologues as this is quite long but would love some opinions.

So I have a friend who is quite highly strung and can be a bit full on at times, but I feel this is just toxic and slightly cruel?

We did some casual work together over the summer in hospitality at various events. She already knew the woman in charge so it was her who got me into it. Anyway, after summer neither of us heard anything further about work.
Then the woman text me a few weeks ago asking if I could do a couple of shifts last minute at an event, I didn’t really think much of it so said yes.
Told my friend in passing and thought all was cool.
Then after working the first shift I get a barrage of text messages from the friend becoming increasingly angry. Apparently the woman had been slagging me off to her after the summer work, she had thought I was “beggy” because I’d asked about more work and there had been some group outing that everyone had been invited to apart from me etc.

She said she’d decided not to work with this person again because of how I’d apparently been spoken about, and that she’d felt she was standing up for me.

I pointed out I hadn’t known about any of this at the time and I was a bit unsure of her motives for deciding to tell me now. And it was putting me in a bit of an awkward position as I’d agreed to do the work already.

Things escalated from there, and I was made to feel that I’d betrayed her trust and behaved disloyally by accepting the work. I was told I’d really upset her and that she was disappointed in me and because I had questioned her reasoning for telling me now I was trying to make her out to be a horrible person when she’s been nothing but a good friend to me.

I didn’t feel I’d knowingly done anything wrong, as I’d been unaware of the alleged comments or any issues between them. I decided not to keep arguing about it, as it wasn’t getting anywhere.

Since then, she’s cut contact and blocked me on social media…

sounds like the trash took itself out. I assume jealousy that you got more work

She’s a toxic friend and a liar - bad reaction to you getting offered work and not her.

I would move on she sounds like she has the intelligence of a gnat

That sounds like a lot of drama over a couple of shifts in hospitality. Do you think she feels like she lost control of the situation?
