Married man. Just stay quiet, right?

This man contacted me on Instagram initially sending some self healing type stuff.

I didn't mind, as I'd shared on my page that things are a bit rough right now.

So I thanked him & looked at his second linked page, which makes it sound like he's a big deal. He's written books & been on TV etc.

The next day he contacts me & asks me out for coffee! I tell him no thank you.

He doesn't accept this & asks why. I simply say 'Aren't you in the USA? I'm in the UK'.

He sends a couple more messages which I don't open, asking what I like to do in my spare time etc, I delete without reading.

Today, he contacts me again asking why I didn't respond! (I'm bored today so I answer him) That I thought he was reaching out to be kind but now I don't think his intentions are honourable.

He tells me that I'm right & that he hadn't even looked at my page when he initially messaged.

After this he sent a few more trying to ask questions about my situation & engage etc & I've read them & ignored, everything is deleted.

I then Google him & he's married. Posts up to 6 months ago wishing his wife happy birthday etc. photos with his wife & kids from a few days ago (on FB)

I've already deleted everything anyway so I just forget about it now, don't I.

There's this little jiggle in the back of my mind saying to tell his wife but there's nothing to tell really! He only asked me for coffee. I'm feeling a bit guilty like I've done something wrong & I'm feeling sad for his wife so that's why I've written it out, to clear it from my mind.

He’s probably a bloke in a call centre in Accra.

TalkAboutAnything · 19/10/2026 13:47

Supersimkin7 Could be!

Yes tbh this sounds like some scam to me. Might start asking for money soon

JustWalnut · 19/10/2026 13:49

Why are you even giving this headspace? I would have blocked him after the first unwanted message.

KindlySurfiingPlatypus · 19/10/2026 13:50

Just block him. He wasn't trying to have an affair with you, he worked out you are vulnerable and was setting up to scam you. Just block and move on.

remotescontrol · 19/10/2026 13:52

I wouldn’t be so sure that the person who contacted you is the same man whose name he used. The Google search may have led to the real person but i would assume scammer using someone else ID for an ‘in’ - just block and forget about it.

DaisytheElephant · 19/10/2026 13:53

It’s obviously a scam for money.

TalkAboutAnything · 19/10/2026 13:54

whatandindeedwhy Ha! Well he won't get any of that.

remotescontrol Yes this crossed my mind, I was going to add it into the OP but thought that I'd waffled on enoughGrin

Just block him 🤷🏻‍♀️

Im a photographer in a very male industry, and I block people regularly - I’ve got quite good at spotting the normal people up for a chat, from the weirdos who try to present as normal at first.

semideponent · 19/10/2026 14:06

He contacted you. No need to feel guilty, Just block him.

HowTheLight · 19/10/2026 14:10

This is just an automatic block, without giving it a second thought, surely?

TalkAboutAnything · 19/10/2026 14:22

IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs 'Trying to present as normal' made me laughGrin

Semideponent Thank you.

I think I have read similar on here before, the contact came through self care/social media out of the blue. Just another scammer.

TalkAboutAnything · 19/10/2026 14:32

Thank you CrikeyNumpty I expect there's tonnes of them.

Glad to be of service 😁

I’ve worked in a lot of male-dominated industries so I’m tough as boots online these days really!

omghereistrouble · 19/10/2026 16:17

Why are you interacting with a random nobody online. People do not ask people on dates via Instagram.

I always told my kids, if you have not actually met them, you do not know them.

Beingseenisneedy · 20/10/2026 19:12

Delete, move on.

He's not just asking you, but lots of others.
You don't engage if not interested.

Married men and women have been cheating since forever, why are you surprised?

TalkAboutAnything · 20/10/2026 20:51

CalmForCats Well we also don't know each other but we interact on here. I wasn't claiming to know him.

Beingseenisneedy I wasn't surprised.

I had a chat with somebody who was likely lying & it's over & done with now. That's it.
