Gift for 18yo boy

What do people gift their 18 years old?
my son is turning 18 soon and my DP is thinking of buying a £1500 watch.. i think it is outdated..
just wondering what other people do. Thank you

I bought my foster son a Tag Huer watch for his 18th. He has always liked DH's one. He just wears it when he goes out to formal cricket dinners. He doesn't use it day to day although I've told him he could use it everyday.

We went on a helicopter flight over north Wales. I didn't tell him until the day in case it was cancelled because of the weather.
It was a fantastic surprise and a great experience

Something sentimental is fine but I wouldn't spend the whole budget on it if it won't be used. A few hundred on a nice watch and the rest on something he would genuinely appreciate and enjoy. We paid for DS and his GF to go to a festival and bought the tent. They had the time of their lives and many memories made.

I dont think DS would wear the watch bit DP got one from his dad and he wants to continue the tradition…

Perhaps get him a much cheaper one then and the rest in beer money cash?

What does he want? Would he want a £1500 watch? It’s a lot of money to be walking round with on your arm…

DC1 got cash as there was not much he wanted in the way of gifts and he’s not into clothing, jewellery etc.

DC2 is getting a guitar as that’s what he wanted.

My GS got a £250 watch for his 18th and wears it often. He also got £1000 (and a Swiss army knife from me - he's into camping and loves it).

Would he want a watch?
Has he ever worn a watch?
Would he actually be able to wear it out in public without the worry of being mugged or is it meant to be an investment piece that sits in a drawer?
The 18 year olds I know really wouldn't be interested or impressed to be honest.
