Honestly what would you think of sisters both with gem stone names?

Honest opinions guys what would you think of sisters with gem names along the lines of pearl and jade or Ruby and Amber?

Not Amethyst and Sapphire.

Sorry for posting in 30 days it’s so there’s no digital footprint of anyone saying it’s shit 😂

I wouldn’t think anything of it. I know plenty of sisters with flower names, same thing.

I like it. I know of two flower name sibling pairings, Lily and Ivy, and Rosie and Lily. No different from my generation when we were all biblical names. Rachel, Sarah, Rebecca... also better than all siblings starting with the same initial imo.
In response to another poster, I know of 2 Edith's and at least 2 Elsie's under 10. All lovely.

I don't think you should choose matching names for the sake of it but if there are two you like that happen to match, why not?

Remember that the majority of their lives will be spent in adulthood and most people probably won't know their friend/colleague/distant relative-by-marriage's sister's name off the top of their head - how many of your colleagues' siblings could you name? The names will be received on their own merits so need to stand alone more than they need to match.

I taught a Sapphire and Krystal, which I thought was a bit naff, particularly with the spelling, but a lot of the others are ok.

My grandmother was one of 16 siblings and the girls are named after gemstones until they ran out of ideas and went onto flowers. Then the boys are names like George, Reginald and Basil - no other herbs used either! It's a weird combination in a family tree if listed only by age but not by sex. If you've just got the two, why not. Have a rethink if you do have a third as boy's gemstone names are more difficult.

Jasper is a black semi-precious stone. There are probably other ‘stones’ that are not considered girls names as well.

I’d think it was weirdly matchy-matchy, the same as if they both had flower names or virtue names, or month names.

This reminds me of a story called The Ordinary Princess, where they are all named after gemstones, and the ordinary one is Amethyst, Amy for short. I am not a fan of matchy or themed names, but somehow Ruby and Amber seem to work best.

I actually know an Amber Jade. Surname is Stone 😂 She loves it.

I know a Ruby with a sister called Opal. There is another sister too with a name that’s not a gemstone.

My sister and I have gemstone names (not Pearl) and we didn’t even realise until we were teenagers 🤣🤣 I did meet twins called Reggie and Ronnie at a toddler group once and I thought that was a brave pairing.

Didn’t say it won’t, just that it hasn’t. It’s an awful name, just like Edith, so who knows! I’ve never met a child called Edith or Agnes though, only older ladies. I didn’t even know it was a gemstone name until
today though so I’ve learnt something new

I think it depends a lot on the names. Amber and Jade I wouldn’t even notice they matched. Sapphire and Emerald I would.
Ruby and Crystal I’d just think a bit trashy tbh. Pearl and Beryl I’d think great grandma over gemstone, but these things are cyclical.

I love gemstone names but one of my dds has a flower name and one a tree, so I possibly don't have a leg to stand on...

I teach an Agnes and know several small Mauds, Idas and the like, all of which feel very much like old lady names, but in 20 years time it'll probably be all Joans and Cyrils or Dereks!

But tbf, if you take away just how unusual those names would be they're actually quite pretty.
You could shorten to Perri and Spin. You'd probably get away with it if you were dead posh.
