I’m getting married in March and I’m beyond stressed about my youngest. He will be 2 years and 4 months at the time of the wedding and I thought this would be a good age when we booked the wedding as he would be running around by then and able to communicate and have a less rigid routine than a baby.
However, he is extremely clingy and prone to major meltdowns if he is overwhelmed. I mean screaming as loud as he can and sometimes getting so upset he can be sick. Although that has only happened a couple of times. I’m struggling to see a version of my wedding day that I will actually get to enjoy. In hindsight I wish I’d waited another year or two to get married but everything is booked now and the vendor deposits paid so that’s not an option now.
How can I prepare him over the next 6 months for the wedding? He is the funniest most lovely little boy when he’s on good form but a long wedding day with lots of people is overwhelming for the best of us, never mind a clingy toddler. I’ve read great things about wedding babysitters but I just don’t feel comfortable handing him over to a stranger and there’s no way he would be ok with that, it would be the end of the world for him. Our parents and families are great and will help but I want them to enjoy the day too. I also fear that as long as he can see I’m there he will only want me. I just want to do what I can to help him enjoy the day and feel relaxed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Apologies for the long post
