I have 2 young adult children, both early twenties. They've simultaneously finished university and have come home to live whilst job hunting. They both plan on moving out once they have a steady job and income. It was an easier relationship when they're living apart (but still not a good relationship).
My problem is that they do not get along. They used to be close as children, but throughout teenage years there has been some poor mental health for both of them (one more severe than than the other) and a lot of resentment has built up based on how they were treated by us parents vs how their sibling was treated. They're both ND and not brilliant communicators.
I have tried talking to them separately and together, suggested they get therapy individually, reminded them that we parents will die one day and they'll only have each other! They are not receptive to these suggestions and continue to blame each other for causing them pain.
How do other parents, of adult siblings who do not get on, manage? I'm struggling because it feels as though they want me to take sides but I just want a harmonious family.
I can't envisage any more family holidays or even celebrations together in the future. But if so, how do I cope?! What do you for? TIA.
