Glad you rang them, OP, hopefully it is just related to the bug as you say. Hope you don't have to wait too long to be seen.

Ah I’m glad you sought medical help- there are many causes of this type of episode and the majority aren’t cause for major concern but you are absolutely right be to seen and do take it easy for a few days even if it is thought to be related to the sickness bug, your body has been through it.

That sounds scary OP. Hope you got some reassurance from A&E!

I was prescribed tramadol after my first C-section. I was happily sat in a chair chatting to DH the next day and I suddenly went deaf. I remember saying “I can’t hear you”, then my vision went black and I said “I can’t see you either”. Then I collapsed in the chair. The nurses put me back into bed and I came around quickly. I assume it was blood pressure, but it never happened again and they took the good drugs off me 😂 Laughable now, but terrifying in the moment!

I think some posters are confusing blacking out (fainting or coming close to fainting) and temporarily losing your vision. I have had both happen. Losing vision (for me it’s one eye) is related to migraines, I go blind in one eye for about 20 minutes, even though I have no other migraine symptoms. Fainting happens for me with low blood pressure and dehydration (and no you don’t necessarily need an ambulance for that, for the poster who said blacking out always requires an ambulance).

The person writing breathless nonsense is you. You actually call an ambulance for anyone who faints?! You actually go to A and E for that?! No wonder the service is on its knees. In this case, after advice from 111, A and E is the right call. I’ve fainted loads of times and never even considered A and E, let alone such ridiculous amateur dramatics as an ambulance! People are absolutely absurd.

Those are all symptoms of sudden increased blood or other inter-cranial pressure - the vision going black is a BIG warning sign
Certainly ring 111, consider going to A&E

maybe not helpful but i used to get this from a broken phone and dodgy charger - it was a mini electric shock

I lost my vision once while standing in the middle of a gig dancing. Was so wierd. I just carried on dancing and it came back 10 seconds later. Hope its all fine Op.

I used to lose vision in the upper right of my field of vision at the start of a migraine, and it was quite frightening. That corner just used to go black without any warning.

I rarely get migraines since my menopause, but that same part of my vision goes all shimmery when I do.

TIA clinic- most areas I think have one where you can attend the next day? You need to be seen asap. They will rule things in/ out- so can be ruled out as migraines etc... but can also be ruled in as high risk of more TIAs/ stroke and care given accordingly. Google your local area and how to access.

This happens to me e quite frequently (it started after I had my 3rd child 18 years ago). I didn't get it checked out as I always recovered quickly.
Over time I realised it was always when hadn't eaten or drunk enough.
It used to terrify me too.

I had this last week after a vomiting bug!! I woke up on the floor with a bump to the head afterwards and was bleeding so I went to the hospital for that reason alone but it started the same, felt like I had got so breathless warm soaked in sweat and vision black but I honestly didn’t think I had passed out, I’ve never fainted in my life but I vividly remember no vision and still hearing! I confirmed it was a fainting episode after checks at A&E. The bug I had was vile so my condolences!

Yesterday I was on reddit reading which symptoms should patients not brush off, and one of them was vision going black for a few seconds.

That’s why they call it ‘blacking out’ , because when you faint, everything does go black.
The first time I fainted was after a bout of sickness.
If you’re worried, ask 111 or see a doc.
Too much scaremongering on here.

I used to get these spells. They were diagnosed as panic attacks. I never felt anxious when they happened, and didn't have the apparently classic feeling that I was going to die, but they did start after something shocking happened in my life, so it made sense. Fixed with a six month course of antidepressants.
