Where to emigrate to in Australia ?

Australia no longer offers new retiree visa, I think you have to be under 45 to work.

The people I know who have assets and savings in the uk that they were going to liquidate and live on in Australia quickly realised that it wasn’t feasible with what they had, a real financial struggle whereas they live good lives in the U.K. financially eg own outright, multiple holidays each year, 2 cars retired early… they all had children there so would get family visas easily. I’ve glanced myself as dh is Australian but not doable

Have you looked into what you need financially to emigrate, you need to be independent not just buy a house, plus a sponsor, work or a relative.

Yeah maybe I'm a bit skewed because of its proximity to the lovely rainforests north of Cairns - I just loved them! 😅

We lived in Perth for 10 years and had our children there. We loved loads of things about it, we had a nice daily lifestyle and as pp said there's loads there for kids and families. Our reasons for moving were 1. The weather. As fair skinned people raising very fair skinned children, we really struggled with Jan/ Feb's endless weeks of 35 degrees and above. I had a mole removed when I was there and the doctor basically said I had a higher chance of getting skin cancer living there than not getting skin cancer. 2. Distance from family. All family back in the UK, huge expense to visit and all annual leave used up on visiting. Terrible guilt about grandparents not seeing children. Also really struggled with the fact that when they visited us they would come for at least 3 weeks 😂 but that's just a personal issue! 3. I did find the attitudes there quite backwards. Lots of casual racism, particularly towards indigenous people. Hopefully that is changing. A lot of wealth, and a real culture of putting wealth on display, even down to things like kids birthday parties etc. there was a sort of facade to everything that I didn't like. I also lived in Melbourne which I didn't find had that at all and felt, for me, a lot culturally closer to the UK.

Why do you want to emigrate, it's not easy to just move to Australua and you need a lot of money, have you got family or a sponsor. What are your interests, there's more to australia than good weather, Melbourne is wonderful, it depends on what you enjoy in life and how much money you have.

Im in Perth (well south of) and there is a huge expat community here.
The comment about everyone in sex work is laughable.
I don't find it overly isolated.

Definitely do a visit to each place and get a feel for the.

Lived in Brisbane for 16 years and moved to Melbourne as soon as the children finished school. It was fantastic for schools...BUT

I did not love Brisbane - hotter than the fires of Mordor for most of the year. Hideous humidity and mosquito's and so so boring.

The GC is nice if you like the beach and the weather a bit less intense than Brisbane.

I like 4 seasons, the theatre, late night dive bars, amazing food and a London vibe. So Sydney and Melb were it for me. I adore Melbourne.

I visited Perth and definitely not for me. Its like a smaller Brisbane just not as humid. Cardboard cut out towns - to me quite soulless.

Whatever you do, don't move to Adeleide or Canberra! They are both quite boring.

Brisbane is nice. I did like Cairns too but it's small and quite far from other places, so maybe not somewhere to move to. In Australia you really do need to think about the distances.

I have never found being isolated and issue. It's been 8 years and there's enough in WA to make a nice life by itself.

I think when you move to Perth you accept big holidays will be less but your trading this for an everyday lovely lifestyle imo.

There is a sleazy side to Perth because of all the mining there is loads of sex work. Beautiful city but a small city really. Go East coast. Of course Sydney is the pick if you can afford it but if you can't Brisbane isn't far off. Yea it's hot in summer but it's Australia FFS.

It's so far from everywhere else in Australia - and that is saying something, seeing as it's Australia. It's kind of alone as a big city on west coast. I spent about 3 months living there and while it was nice and the people are nice, it's too isolated from the rest of the country.

Why?

Surely you go where you can get a job and a mortgage? Unless you’re both in a profession where jobs open to foreigners are universal and the salaries will pay any mortgage (doctor?) that’s likely going to dictate where you live.

I live on the Gold Coast. It has a reputation for being a fake and transient population, but I’ve been here since 1984 and love it. Stay 30 years and you might be considered a local.

In terms of cost of living though, it’s insane. While the headlines are saying prices of homes are falling, the Gold Coast and Perth are the two places that have really bucked that trend.

I would suggest looking at real estate prices and where you can find employment. So many people moved to Queensland post covid that the job market is also harder for many here too. Although, this depends on the industry you’re in.

Don't move to Perth.

The climate is vastly different from Brisbane to Perth.

If you don't mind hot and humid go to Brisbane. If you prefer a dry heat go to Perth.

I grew up in Perth and would agree that it is very isolated. I don't particularly know the Eastern states but you could consider another city between Sydney and Melbourne.

I am in Perth and love it! I was lucky enough to buy a house before the prices went crazy though, it’s not so easy for people to buy now.

Haven't been to GC but emigrated to Perth prekids and had our children here. All citizens now.

We live a lovely lifestyle. Great work life balance. So much to do for all ages of children. Can't complain to be honest!

I agree, Perth is very cut off from the rest of the country. It’s also very expensive on account of all the FIFO and mining workers.

Where do you need live for work? Everyone I know that’s lived in Perth shad absolutely loved it.
my sister had just moved from GC to outer Brisbane suburbs to buy their first home and paid almost $1m for a townhouse. Aus seems to be expensive for housing in all major areas

I wouldn't move to Perth, it's too far from everywhere. Attitudes a bit backwards as well. Look for a cheaper location anywhere on East Coast.

To be honest everywhere is expensive for houses although the ABC keep saying prices are falling but no evidence where we are (SA).
