Advice on starting a new career at 30 with young children

I am looking to return to full time work but I am feeling a bit deflated and unsure. I have 2 beautiful boys (2.5 and 6 months) and I want to improve their lives. I could really use some advice or reassurance on if I am going about it the right way or if I need to rethink things!

Currently I am looking at 2 apprenticeship avenues. 1st is childcare and the 2nd is accounting.

I am worried that my previous work history (I was previously a store manager in retail) could make it hard to get an apprenticeship?

I also have concerns regarding getting a job in both childcare and accounting.

In childcare my issue is lack of experience as well as needing space for my boys 2-3 days a week.

With accounting my A- levels were 10 odd years ago in non mathematical subjects with not the best grades.

I'm not looking to earn big big money that is my partners aim. However, he is having to work 6 nights a week to cover our bills and I want more for my boys than us 'just getting by'

Any advice would be greatly appreiated for a 30 year old mum just trying to start a fresh career!

Accounting is one of the areas most at risk of job losses due to people being replaced by machines. At my job there is a hiring freeze on accounting roles and AI is being heavily pushed in to the teams with the idea of automating around 80% of tasks. It's not an area I see much future in and I'm looking to get out. Not only because of the job losses but also because of what the job is being reduced to. Days are becoming more and more monotonous as the machines take over.

Many moons ago I did work experience in a nursery and a primary school and came to the conclusion that it's only worth it if you are totally passionate about it.

Thank you! I have to admit it is one of my concerns with accounting is the long term job security!

I wouldn't say I am overly passionate about childcare but it does seem to be one of the jobs that is recruiting most often especially for apprenticeships.
