Lindsay Clancy, what do we all think? Pure evil or mentally ill?

I've not closely followed this trail. What does ask Patrick mean?

It's short-hand for "A woman kills her children. Let's find a man to blame."

He started dating her 4 months after his wife allegedly murdered his children. That's pretty quick

It is. We don’t know that they didn’t just start as friends. But he gets so much hate for getting re married 3 years later. I don’t think that’s fair. He is probably broken in ways most of us will never experience. I don’t know. I just think he’s suffered enough.

I expect we'll see some men using paternal postpartum as a defense.

Men don’t suffer from postpartum psychosis nor postpartum depression, the clue is in the word “postpartum”.

SulkingInTheCatio · 04/09/2026 20:28

Well she’ll pay for her “crime” regardless of the verdict. Her children are dead and she states (and I see no reason to disbelieve her) that she’s traumatised by that and wishes she hadn’t done what she did.

She will grieve those children for ever. She’s paralysed, permanently. Even if found not guilty she’s likely to spend quite some time in a psychiatric unit where she’s currently an inpatient. She has no choice in this, she’s lost her liberty.

Quite, you were taking about them in the same sentence regarding the emotive topics and the limitations that the public has to understand more complex medical issues. I was pointing out that I think one is innocent because there was no actual evidence. Everyone wanted her hung drawn and quartered due to the emotive nature,

As I said very few people thought LL was innocent at the time, so that’s only with hindsight.

Many want LC hung drawn and quartered due to the emotive evidence. When children are murdered is someone needs to pay. And that’s the problem with hearing such cases in a court with full media coverage.

If LC was psychotic she is innocent of murder in the first degree. despite having killed her children. In this country it would be on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

FergussSingsTheBlues · 04/09/2026 20:26

Is anybody watching the press conference on sky? That bloody lawyer is acting like he’s been given an Oscar, he praising all his colleagues blah blah.:: some guy is actually wearing at shirt saying “court dawg” and they’re all hugging him at the microphone, absolutely no sense of dignity at all. It’s just so crass.

Where are the families?

I meant found guilty and imprisoned.

Those poor children. Fucking hell.

To me, to find her guilty of murder would be to put her in the same category as Chris Watts, who intentionally killed his kids, his wife and unborn child to start a new life with his mistress. He then lied about it and tried to cover it up.

Lindsay is not that. She is someone who repeatedly asked and begged for help. She asked to be hospitalised. She tried every medication professionals gave her. She told them she had thoughts of harming herself and had intrusive thoughts about her children. She had no motive. She tried to kill herself. When she didn’t die she wanted the doctor to agree to a DNR so that she would not be resuscitated (they refused to do that).

To me, they are not the same. One is a cold hearted killer. The other is mentally ill.

Yes it is tragic. Its equally tragic that a woman who feared she would be a danger to her children was ignored when she asked for help.

I would rather see someone like this in a hospital than a prison.

It’s equally tragic as 3 children being strangled? No.

XelaM · 04/09/2026 20:23

Why does no one let the fathers off who kill their families but the mothers are always excused for being "mentally ill"? She killed three little kids. She's fucking evil.

DogAnxiety · 04/09/2026 20:22

I never understand these threads. How can anyone answer this question unless you are intimately involved with the person/family? It’s not like an episode of the Traitors where you’re guessing based on vibezzz.

I can't look past the fact that there doesn't seem to be any proof of her psychosis other than the fact that she claims to have been psychotic for the period of time that she killed her children. And the proof of her psychosis is the killing of her kids, so it's a circular argument. What makes you think she was psychotic- well, she killed her kids. Why did she kill her kids- she was psychotic.

Either way, whether psychotic or not, I believe she should pay for the crime.

She reported a number of symptoms of psychosis over a period of time when she was seeking help. It was not just that she said she was psychotic at a specific time.

But why does that mean that she didn't intend to kill her children in what was a violent horrible death? Three times. And yet the voices in her head have not been back before or since. I think she is lying and it was a very cold, calculating act. Sure shes remorseful now, after the children are dead.

The voices were there before. In any case voices are only one aspect of psychosis. You can be psychotic with no auditory hallucinations.

After the event she may have got better treatment.

She has been charged. The issue here is that the prosecution decided to go for first degree murder charges. There would have been discussions prior to going to trial, but they decided to go for the maximum charge. The trial may have gone very differently if different charges were proposed.

Every time I see a photo of the children I get overwhelmed with emotion and horror. They were absolutely beautiful. I’m firmly in the camp of viewing the children as the victims of this crime and I believe LC should be charged despite any kind of mental illness.

During and just after the LL trial there was very little dispute that LL killed the babies, in fact. I was one of a tiny minority of posters here critical of the medical evidence who felt there was no evidence of murder in any of the cases.

But that’s not the point. I didn’t say the LL case was like the LC, I said that both cases the spotlight the flaws of the adversarial legal system in dealing with scientific evidence and picked out 3 points of confluence between them.

Most lay people don’t understand psychosis so everything they think they think is grounded mostly in fancy.

I can’t believe anyone thinks anything other than mental illness. That poor woman.

As her lawyer said in his summing up, referring to photographs of Lindsay before and after, ‘How does this turn into this? How? Because of the damn medicine and the lousy medical care that she got.’

She needs to be acquitted and looked after in a mental health facility. There is no way she should go to prison.

What a bizarre judicial system it is where this decision is left to 12 randoms rather than experts. Would this happen in the U.K.?

Ha ha! See Lucy Letby.

She recorded in her diary about not being able to sleep and her ex husband reported seeing her sat on the sofa rocking back and forth with a pillow over her head

You said this as if it was partial evidence that she was so unwell as to not be responsible for murdering her children. It isn’t. People can display a lot worse symptoms than this and still be responsible for their actions.

I don’t know about displaying much worse symptoms as the symptoms she described were suicidal ideation, thoughts of harming her children, insomnia, hallucinations, hearing voices, obsessive behaviour, severe anxiety, etc. I’m not sure how much worse it could get so far as the mental issues she reported to have prior to killing the children. I certainly don’t know of any cases where someone has presented with that many mental health issues and still professionals felt they could be left alone with their kids.

Whereas I find it hard to read the details and conclude that this tragedy was caused by anything but mental illness and a lack of appropriate support.
