It's not an odd take, its a really sane take, and she is denying that she murdered them and is defending herself in court. Her choice of course, but she is not a victim in any way. I think she had depression but so do many people, probably angry that her husband didn't help enough and was resentful of her life with three children who were hard work. Maybe that's an inconvenient truth? Most people don't kill their own children in the most despicable violent horrible way, three times while sending out their partner for food, checking she would have enough time to kill them while researching how long the journey would take.

No it is an odd take.

she’s not denying she killed them. She is saying that she is not guilty of first degree murder due to her altered mental state at that moment in time.

extreme sleep deprivation can alter perception of reality, it is documented in scientific research, and her husband not ‘helping’ as you put it likely contributed to the situation of a further declining mental state.

no most mothers with severe pnd, sleep deprivation or psychosis don’t kill but most ‘evil’ ‘calculated’ killers don’t reach out for help and vocally tell people they are having thoughts of harming their children either and try and check themselves into mental facilities nor do they have their ex husband and ex MIL testify how much of a loving parent they were

Disappointed100 · 04/09/2026 21:23

You only need to look at Perez Hilton to see what's possible while in the middle of a serious mental health crisis

I wonder how the jury was voting. Was the majority for guilty or not guilty?

The defense lawyer wanted to bin the dissident so what do you think??

plsdontlookatme · 04/09/2026 21:20

I think I just can't imagine not understanding how psychosis works. I don't understand how so many people are unable to grasp the concept of psychosis. Of course someone in active psychosis can plan things/conceal things in accordance with their delusions, whilst completely detached from reality.

She murdered three children. Think about that for a minute. Throw away the bloody key. Fucking evil to the core.

The term evil has no place in a court of law, it’s supernatural terminology and implies that horrific acts are part of that persons intrinsic nature and gets rid of their culpability.

we use the terminology to make us feel more comfortable that there was something so deeply ‘wrong’ with that person that they could never be us ‘normal’ people. Lindsay wasn’t ‘evil’ she’s a human.

Where’s the evidence of any diagnosis of psychosis of LC either before or after the murders? As far as I’m aware, there is none. Have you seen otherwise?

She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-partum psychosis after the deaths of her children.

That she was not appropriately diagnosed or medicated prior to their deaths is precisely the problem.

The whole case rests on her not being recognized to be psychotic so of course she was not diagnosed. And post partum psychosis is not an official diagnosis in the DSM but it is well known that depression can become psychotic if not treated. So post partum depression turning to post partum psychosis is not a stretch, and the whole way womens health after pregancy and birth is assessed is in desperate need of research, and update.

But if you look at the pattern of symptoms she was reporting during the numerous medical visits she made to ask for help, there is clear evidence of psychotic symptoms. No one seemed to take an overview, but when you look at it all together, there is a clear through line.

What an odd take!

no one is condoning the act and saying it’s fine but it’s pretty clear she wasn’t an ‘evil’ person. Although the term evil has no place in a court of law. She’s not denying what she did.

the reason the case has resonated with so many women is that so many women (myself included) can see parts of our own story in hers, how many women have begged for help from partners and then to shrug and walk away, begged for help from health professionals to be dismissed, expected to just get on with it etc

Don’t participate then?

So irritating when posters type this. Someone is allowed to say that they dislike the premise of a thread without being told ‘off you pop, then’ or equivalent.

There is a point to be made, which I agree with, that such threads are reductionist & treating a horrific, tragic event as entertainment. ‘Pure evil’ 🙄

It’s ok for posters to say this if that’s what they think.

Both of you think this because you have zero experience, qualifications or clinical exposure to actual psychosis generated from post partum
misdiagnosis and as a result prescribing medications that actually make this type of patient significantly worse.

Her mind was not her own. She had hallucinogenic delusions. Her behaviour was entirely symptomatic of a patient exposed to inappropriate meds and treatment that should have been detected.

whilst she carried out the actions, she wasn’t independently, determinately and autonomously responsible for those actions.

You are stating supposition as fact. But that doesn’t make it fact.

Sewingbeedamned · 04/09/2026 21:13

Makkka · 04/09/2026 20:54

Surely acting normal suggests you are of some sound mind? It doesn’t mean you’re not suicidal or significantly depressed, because you hate your life but you don’t want other people to know so you pretend all is well. That’s not my understanding of psychosis.

A lot of people with psychosis have persecution themes so will be very motivated to keep things to themselves. But they usually cant keep it up over time, and if you are watching you start to see them responding to things, or they let stuff slip about what they are thinking. This is why you ideally want them in an inpatient setting with round the clock observations.

However, in this case she was very open about her MH struggles. To the person saying she was evil, and could have killed herself, she tried. And asked not to be resuscitated at the hospital.

And @Getalittle - the tragedy is that those deaths would not have happened if she had been taken seriously and given proper treatment. Hope that explains it clearly enough for you.

CloverAndGrass · 04/09/2026 21:13

Sewingbeedamned · 04/09/2026 19:07

And what are you basing your opinions of what psychosis looks like on? Because you made a very strong statement that she wasnt psychotic before or after. After working in psych hospitals for over a decade, I can tell you that the things being put forward here are not reliable signs of psychosis. And killing children in the grip of psychosis has been documented since we have had notions of mental health itself.

@CapeMylar - not guilty by reason of insanity is what we usually see represented in films, but it is incredibly difficult to get this - less than 1% of people who claim this are given this sentence. And in that case, they are likely to be hospitalized for an indefinite period. There is a plea of guilty but mentally ill in most states which is more likely. And no, it does not give you carte blanche to do what you like, because it still finds you guilty.

Where’s the evidence of any diagnosis of psychosis of LC either before or after the murders? As far as I’m aware, there is none. Have you seen otherwise?

There are people in this very thread who are trying to pin the blame on him.

I think a lot of women see parts of their own story in hers (not the fall extent of course) but parts.

im happy to elaborate further on the personal aspects for myself but I don’t want to derail the thread and make it about me

Men commit 95% of family killings, and violent crime in general. They’ve got the reasoning down to a fine art, they also get lesser sentences than when on the rare occasion women do it

Disappointed100 · 04/09/2026 21:09

Pushingback · 04/09/2026 20:46

I don’t think she did it at all. I think he did it. He never expected her to survive.

I'm edging this way. Lots of dubious evidence. One example - she couldn't speak for days, yet when he found her, she told him the kids were in the basement.
She had a crushed thyroid - not usual with trying to cut the throat, but usually due to strangulation

Conundrummum123 · 04/09/2026 21:09

IronEverything · 04/09/2026 21:05

Her husband did not just shrug and walk away FFS.

You can see in the clips who is the parent carrying the mental load.

he was told she was having thoughts of harming the children, she shouldn’t have been left alone with them

but my shrugging and walking away comment was a more general one about women/ mothers who often reach out for help in various places often a partner to not have the partner step up, it’s all over MN women struggling with sleep deprivation and the man saying he needs his sleep because he’s working, or won’t look after the children, won’t cook won’t clean etc

BabyCat2020z · 04/09/2026 21:08

Her family/ partner were aware of her illness and levels of medication, yet she was left alone with her kids. Very unfair to blame her. There is no motive, no would ever want this to happen, it's a tragedy.

You haven't seen the endless youtube videos, tiktoks etc from (mostly) women who are obsessively trying to twist any and every fact of the case, and/or outright fabricate stuff, into an indication that it was the husband who either killed the children himself, got someone else to kill them, or somehow influenced Lindsay to kill them?

No. I don't do YouTube, TikTok etc.
