Yondr pouch opener

Hi all - DD’s school is introducing Yondr pouches for their phones this term. DD(14) is autistic and struggles with exec function. I know she will forget to get it unlocked semi-regularly. Can anyone recommend a suitably strong magnetic de-tagger that actually works on them to have at home when the inevitable happens?

I know you should look to get a >12k Gs neodymium milled magnet release mechanism ideally but loads on Amazon get horrible reviews. Anyone got one that does the trick? Thanks

I think the point is that you can't get the magnets easily......!

Honestly, the school will set up routines - am and pm - for locking and unlocking phones and no student will leave the school site without.

We have the boxes in each form room, in the rooms where detentions are held, there's a whole system for those that do extra curricular clubs, arrive late, leave early .....

It's all been thought through.

If they manage to slip through the net despite all that (and I honestly that would be quite difficult) then call the school. There's an awful lot of people working after school finish and I'd bet you could make an emergency trip back.

I had the Yondr training at work yesterday - we were all warned that we must be hypervigilent for students with their own magnets to release the pouches. I've already heard one boy who plans to buy a magnet and charge his friends £1 a time to open their cases.

My school has installed multiple unlockers, at every possible exit point at the school. Our front office, which is staffed until 4:30, also have an unlocked, so can help students out once their have left school.

Thanks everyone - feeling more reassured about how it will be implemented. That said she has a lot of music extra curriculars and so finishes at weird times which is why I’m worried she’ll slip through the net - maybe I should focus on asking the music school to make sure they have one.

@yomellamoHellymost parents can’t pop back as they are at work. Most students at my children’s schools can’t hang around as they have a bus to catch.

I’m fully supportive of the phone pouch introduction at both DC’s schools but if I can buy a magnet to keep at home then I would like to.

The OP’s request is a world away from wanting one so your child can take it to school and flout the rules.

Agree - also the school can set up as many routines as it likes but it doesn’t mean my DC will remember! I’m also miles away in the office and can’t pop back.

Still hoping for a recommendation.

Why would you pop back? If they get home without their phone being unlocked, then why not just leave it locked overnight? As a consequence of them forgetting maybe. Or if they’re worried about forgetting, maybe they can research and buy a magnet to keep at home instead.
I wouldn’t view this as my issue to solve

Well the young people of Reddit seem to favour a neodymium industrial magnet. I’ve ordered one and will report back.
