Airport luggage system failure and possible missed BA flight advice

We are at the airport and the luggage system has broken. We therefore might miss our BA flight. It’s short haul to go to a wedding, and there are plenty of flights to the destination.

I’ve never missed a flight before - I get a bit anxious so always here in plenty of time. Does anyone have any tips on what’s the best thing to do if we do miss it? The staff here are not helpful at all.

We have insurance, and have credit cards to pay for new flights. I’ve taken anything important out of my case (though not my wedding guest outfit!)

Normally you would be transferred onto the next available flight at no cost to you. You should also get food vouchers etc if the delay is longer than 2 hours but they are often not forthcoming. If you pay for anything then claim it back. However if you can make the flight then do, and again BA will just put the bags onto the next flight and take them to wherever you are staying.

Thanks @examadmin. we’ve now managed to drop bags so looks like we will get on the flight (even if bags don’t). The service here was so poor - definitely don’t recommend t5!

Don’t you get on the flight and they will send luggage later? Ask BA staff… not mumsnet
