Just that really had enough, the last 6 years have been hell, he’s disrespectful, rude, always threatens to put me on my ass, doesn’t listen to me, do as he is told, eats all the food and has no care about anyone else, he doesn’t go to school is home tutored twice a week. He has ADHD but I’m just done with it all, he refuses his meds, won’t go to his appointments, sleeps all day and is awake all night. I tried putting rules and boundaries in place and he constantly pushes them, he’s a bad influence on his siblings they are becoming like him and I’m a single mum and really struggling. He doesn’t go out, doesn’t want to do anything but play games all day every day, he spends money on my card for his games without my permission, I’ve had this for the last 6 years and I just can’t do it anymore, he is affecting my mental health and I’m constantly exhausted, he kicks off and smashes things, he tries to over power my parenting when I try and tell his siblings off or put rules in place. I don’t want him here anymore. What do I do? How do I get him out? I’m actually scared he’s going to hit me and then his siblings think it’s ok, he’s already attacked me before. I feel like I have to walk on egg shells. This isn’t a life.

Do not comment if you haven’t got anything nice to say. This isn’t even the half of what I’ve had to put up with the last 6 years!!

If he has known since the age of ten that you didn’t want him, then it doesnt excuse his behaviour, but it does explain it a bit. And will not alter anything now.

I suggested a boxing club before but he will only go if someone else suggests it. He won’t if you do. He hates you as much as you hate him.

You do need to speak to people who can do something. Plenty of suggestions made. But you need to be proactive and go back to talk to them. And to get help, hard though it may be try to do it calmly and not get angry. Ask clear questions about what, who, where you can get help if not from them. For yourself and for him. And for your other children.

curious79 · 03/09/2026 11:37

Take your card off him for a start?!

Maybe find something like a boxing club - a lot of those have originally been set up to help difficult / lost teens and they provide them with a real sense of community and purpose.

This is what started the behaviour last night because I turned the WiFi off and it has time limits, he started shouting about the internet being crap and him lagging and when I said please stop shouting your siblings are asleep and back to school tomorrow I got shut up you fat whale and I don’t care so I took the box out and his ps5 out and he went mental and ran upstairs and started shouting everyone up time to wake up and clapping loud he woke his siblings up and they couldn’t go back of to sleep for ages. He then proceeded to go outside when it was half 10 at night and shout racial abuse, I said get back in we have neighbours that’s not ok and he went I don’t care kept saying he was going to hit me and knock me out and that the internet is all my fault because I have timers on it and that’s why it lags. His brothers struggled to get up this morning and are exhausted because of his selfish and immature behaviour because I took something away.

Why didnt you phone police then?

Remove all devices and phone police to remove him every single time he kicks off.

Hes had a lot of upset and back and forth with different men coming in and out of his life and being abusive. Hes seen from this that he can do what he wants. Hes had a lot of new siblings (babies and toddlers and exhausted pregnant mums are stressful for kids and they often feel pushed out.) Its not necessarily your fault but a young boy raised like this with unlimited screen time and no boundaries will always act out.

Jorge14 · 03/09/2026 11:33

In your position I would call a domestic violence helpline. They will advise you how you can get him out to keep you & your children safe. I was in this position with my son but I had a husband to keep us safe.

Get him involved in a martial art or a gym. Even better if you can both do it together, and you can dip out of its not your cup of tea but the lads in a gym will see his potential if he's angry and willing to put in the work.

This is a good suggestion. Something to take any anger out but redirection and discipline from other, usual men who lead. Boxing clubs are very good for it.

I would not do it together. I would encourage him to join a boxing club or martial arts club on his own. Have a chat with a boxing club leader on your own by all means. They might be able to encourage him to join.

Sorry I see "He will not attend any appointments. I had him referred to CAMHS he didn’t and wouldn’t engage so they discharged him."

Was this online or in person? We found online wass actually easier. We did nit get the right help so habe been re-refered to CAMHS.

He also wouldn’t do online. He has actually told me he doesn’t want to talk to strangers and about his feelings as it won’t help and don’t help. I mean what else can I do with his mindset like that? I can’t physically drag him to the appointments or online….

I'm curious about why you haven't acknowledged any of the comments mentioning phoning the police. It might seem like a scary line to cross but your current situation is pretty dire, it's worth considering.

The police will be called from now on but at the moment I’m trying to seek help for supported living or respite at the very least.

Social don’t care. I’ve begged for help before with it all. Unless I’m sticking needles in my own arm and getting pissed up every night they don’t give a shit

OP contact them again and ask for accommodation to be provided for your DS under Section 20 if the Children’s Act 1989. Tell them you have reached crisis point, that you can no longer care for him because he is a danger to you and his other siblings. Make it clear that he will be effectively homeless and they have a duty to act.

You shouldn’t have to put up with this
He needs to understand that bad behaviour has consequences.
I understand I’m not walking in your shoes OP
but I just would not be able to put up with this behaviour. It would break me. I’ve had awful behaviour from my sons before and honestly the only thing they seemed to understand cold toughness
I honestly would have called the Police

MajorProcrastination · 03/09/2026 11:19

Is he in school? Or college? Was he disruptive and violent in school too?

I'm only asking as I'd suggest talking with someone at the school or college. At our primary school, we'd much rather a parent comes to us and says "I'm really struggling, I can't handle how he is at home, please help" as we can work as a team. We can signpost the parent to support locally, but we can also talk about what approaches work well in school, what doesn't work well, and it really helps for the school staff to understand what's happening at home.

It could be that he's aged out of that kind of support from school but in a non-judgemental way, that's what I'd suggest as a first port of call.

I'm so sorry that you're living like this, it must be really stressful and isolating.

I saw someone else already ask about any sports or gym as that was another thing I thought of when I read your post. My sons go nearly daily to the gym for and they play team sports. One of them commented a few years ago that he likes his gym training and the training and matches as it helps to get any aggression out in a safe way, he feels lighter and calmer after a work out. I know it's different as he's not got the same behaviours or character as your 16 year old but I was just thinking about the gym impact on his mental health.

My DH found a sport that really turned things around for him as a teen too, he was an angry young man and in trouble alot but he had really positive male role models at this sport who taught him about respect and responsibility and those old fellas are still a huge part of his life and made a massive difference.

I'm so sorry that you've not had the support you want and need from social services. Are you able to contact Action for Children? They've got some useful contacts and signposting and advice on their website but you might prefer to talk to someone in real life. I found this page for you and there are more contacts if your scroll to the bottom of the page: Dealing with violent behaviour from your child or teenager

You might not recognise this as domestic abuse but it is.

Contact woman's aid and consider calling the police. Being arrested might give him a kick up the butt.

You don’t know why? He’s watched his mum get into relationships with men who mistreat her. He models himself on these men who have been held up to him as examples of adult manhood.

Yet he knows right from wrong and I’m not the one who asked my ex husband to cheat and leave us and my daughters dad to be a complete cunt. He should see these adult men as disgraces and know that’s not how you act and treat someone, anyone especially your own mother.

I have explained the situation and where everything changed 6 years ago. If you go down the thread it’s there. It’s the fact his dad is a useless prick, then my break up with my husband and him leaving and then my narcissist ex, it’s kind of learnt behaviour in a way from the men that have been present in his life. He has no respect for women at all and is very sexist, racist and homophobic and I don’t even know why.

If the son cares about his 3 year old sister, how about getting her dad involved? He should be involved anyway, he should be protecting his daughter from this negative home environment.

This will give him ammo and he will take her from me as he has threatened this in the past. A very long story with this bloke let’s just say all of last year was court hearings.

He is heading towards Young Offenders Prison and then Adult prison if he doesn't change.

Yep he is. I have had these conversations with him and he don’t care. Says it will be better than living with me.

What about your daughter's dad, OP? His daughter is being subjected to a negative household environment. Can he help at all?

This would give him ammo and a reason to take her from me. He’s that kind if bloke.

Exactly this. People would rather she kick a 16yr old boy who already is massively suffering out of his home than turn off the WiFi and take away his games console. We are so brainwashed by big tech. You really don’t think it’s worth a try? Be prepared to call the police if he kicks off. Call them every single time.

Anything but take away their phones and acsess to short form content and brain frying video games 24/7. The OP said they went to Mallorca and all he did was sit and watch you tube. Doesn’t anybody think it’s worth a try? I said give him a brick phone instead. Honestly, these devices are making our children demented they are frying their brains. Making them depressed, angry, anxious, afraid of real world interaction. Started about 6 years ago, I wonder what shift happened around then? I’m sure it’s not the whole story. Having no father around will be huge for him. Even the lack of sleep at night because they are up way past daylight hours doomscrolling is so corrosive for a growing boy causing irritability, hormones out of balance.
