Hello, I am new to mumsnet and this is my first post, I could really do with some help please.
I had a baby girl nearly 6 weeks ago and it upsets me to say that she is still without a name. Me and my partner can not agree on a name for her, I just wondered if I could get some advice on the names that are on our list, we have eventually got it down to 8 its now gettling the perfect one for her.
Esme
Erin
Emily
Sophia
Molly
Elsie
Holly

Eden, we both really like that one, but her brother is called Noah so I wondered if it was a bit to Biblical to use it for her, and finding out it is unisex put me of it although I don't know any boys with that name. Thank you 🙂

Love Emily and Sophia. Timeless, classic and just beautiful.💛

Eden is lovely and I definitely think of it as a girl name. Sophia and Erin are my favourites from your other names and a poster upthread suggested Sophia Erin which I think is gorgeous. 🥰 I like Esme too, I know a lovely adult woman called Esme so I associate that name with her.
Congratulations on your baby girl @Purplefairydust , whatever you choose will be lovely I'm sure.

They are all lovely. I do know both a man and a woman called Eden. My favourites there are Emily, Esme and Elsie but they are all nice!
I don't think Eden and Noah are too Biblical, one is a place and one a person and they are not usually paired. It isn't like going for Mary and Joseph or Adam and Eve.

Erin, but I also really like Eden, would never know it could be a boys name.

Cotopaxi · 02/09/2026 14:09

Erin would be my choice.

Thank you for your replies 😊 I appreciate it. We both really like Eden, i just can not get away from the fact it is unisex, but they are all lovely names it is tricky to decide but we are sitting down to finalise it tonight 😊 thank you again.

All of those names are lovely OP - congratulations on your new daughter.

I really don't want to be that poster and nitpick the details, but as you've said she is nearly 6 weeks old you're getting pretty close to the deadline for registering a birth. I just checked (out of pure curiosity - my kids are grown with children of their own) and you have to do it withing 42 days (6 weeks) of the birth.

Happy to be corrected on this, you may not even be in the UK...

Hope you can both agree on something that you both love.

I adore Sophia. It is my all-time favourite girl's name. So beautiful and elegant but also cute when she is small. And it means wisdom.

It may be popular, but some names are popular for good reason.

All the names on your list are goreous. Lots would make great middle names too: Sophia Erin is lovely.
