Hello, I am new to mumsnet and this is my first post, I could really do with some help please.
I had a baby girl nearly 6 weeks ago and it upsets me to say that she is still without a name. Me and my partner can not agree on a name for her, I just wondered if I could get some advice on the names that are on our list, we have eventually got it down to 8 its now gettling the perfect one for her.
Esme
Erin
Emily
Sophia
Molly
Elsie
Holly

Eden, we both really like that one, but her brother is called Noah so I wondered if it was a bit to Biblical to use it for her, and finding out it is unisex put me of it although I don't know any boys with that name. Thank you 🙂

Thank you all so much, for all of your help. I over think everything and also a very anxious person, so I can't get it out my mind about Eden been unisex, and also been biblical next to Noah, so I think we will be taking that of our lists. If anybody could suggest some girls names I would really appreciate that thank you 😊

Noah is unisex too - spelled Noa.

I really feel you're overthinking it wrt Eden, but here are some suggestions:

Grace
Abigail
Chloe
Phoebe
Lydia
Lucy
Stella
Celeste
Clara
Sienna
Aphra
Anya

If you had narrowed it down to Emily and Eden and you have now ruled out Eden, you don’t need to start looking for other names.

Emily is a beautiful name. Go with that!

Noah and Juliet
Noah and Charlotte
Noah and Amy
Noah and Genevieve

Out of the two Emily would be my choice, but would you consider Emilia or Edie?

Thank you, but Emilia and Edie are very popular where I live, so I wouldn't use them because of that reason.

Emily 100%. If it’s seen just written down, it’s automatically assumed female.

My friends brother is Eden, so to me it’s a male name first and foremost.

Noah and Emily sound great together.

All the Emily’s I know absolutely love their name.

Goldengirl123 · 03/09/2026 12:22

esme

Hoork · 03/09/2026 11:37

I love Eden but agree that it could be too biblical. I really love Holly out of those names! All on your list are nice names.

HealthyLiquorice · 03/09/2026 11:26

I wanted to call my daughter Eden 14 years ago but my ex said 'no' as we knew a man called Eden. However, I still think it is lovely, lots of unisex names around now anyways.

I don't regret the name we chose, but I still love Eden. Go for it!

Zanatdy · 03/09/2026 10:39

Eden

wandawaves · 03/09/2026 10:29

Emily was my choice even out of your top 8.
Eden and Noah are a bit too biblical together in my opinion.

2chocolateoranges · 03/09/2026 10:25

Emily for me, dd was very nearly an Emily.

its a classic name that fits any age of child and adult.

eden and Noah just sound too biblical for me.

DancingOctopus · 03/09/2026 10:22

Eden is lovely. I taught a wonderful one many years ago.

mathanxiety · 03/09/2026 02:41

Eden would be perfectly lovely with Noah.

My favourite from your list is Holly. Esme would go well with Noah but it's not to my taste.

I think Molly and Elsie are too nicknamey alongside Noah.
Sophia has the same long O and A ending as Noah so a bit rhymey.

Emily is a bit dated.
Erin really doesn't go with Noah imo.

WWomble · 03/09/2026 02:35

Emily, Emily, Emily!

Crazycockerpoo · 03/09/2026 00:14

Eden.
Emily feels a little dated . I know it's timeless but I think I prefer Eden.

Mumoftwoteenagers · 03/09/2026 00:07

Emily. Because I wanted to name dd Emily but Dh wouldn’t let me.

It is a beautiful name.

Applepieandcustard555 · 02/09/2026 23:59

Purplefairydust · 02/09/2026 23:53

Thank you so much for all of your help 😊 me and my partner have been talking today and tonight and we have got it down to either Emily or Eden, which would be your choice please, and again thank you for all of your help.

I’m not so fond of Eden, especially in combination with Noah.

Emily would be my choice.

Congratulations.

luckylavender · 02/09/2026 16:54

Esme - like
Erin - less keen
Emily - classic
Sophia - I like
Molly - not keen
Elsie - like
Holly - not keen

7238SM · 02/09/2026 16:44

Welcome to mumsnet and congrats!

Esme- I realise its popular, but don't like that it could be Es-mee or Es-may and I still think of a very, elderly lady. I also just don't like the sound of it.
Erin- love
Emily- like
Sophia- like it and prefer it to Sophie
Molly- Its pretty, but to me it sounds like a nick name. Its also a slang name for drugs in some areas.
Elsie- Not keen as also reminds me of an elderly ladies name
Holly- like
Eden- Love. I've never heard it used for a boy. I see the connection with Noah, but it likely wouldn't put me off. If I could have had children, it was on my list x

pilates · 02/09/2026 15:33

Esme is my favourite
