A private neurologist can’t put a patient on their NHS hospital list, they can, if they choose, write to your GP and ask for her to refer you to their clinic within your NHS trust hospital that they practice in. Although there’s no guarantee you will get to see that consultant again. The referral will be triaged and you’ll be seen but not necessarily by them. . Through right to choose some hospitals GPs can refer to may be a little further out. I was also referred to a central London hospital without right to choose as the procedure I needed was not available in a clinic in one of the nearer hospitals.

if what you looking for is some peace of mind in the initial consultation, ie an idea of what is going on, advice etc, and potentially asking them to ask GP to prescribe drugs, it’s worth doing. I did this due to intense pain and a year long nhs wait, I’d already had one crucial exploratory test in the nhs previously that made it unlikely I’d need the test again. But if it’s in the hope of being seen and getting further tests in the NHS more quickly, that won’t happen, you might as well go the GP referral route and save your money, as the consultant would just write to them and ask for that referral anyway. They can’t speed things up.
