Do I display the flowers?

I have been single for 5 years and have recently started dating someone. It's been around 3 months but it is still classed as dating as no conversation has been had to make it official. I have children who are teens/preteen who do not know i have been dating but do know I have been going out to see a friend. They have not questioned anything but the person i am seeing has just given me flowers and I don't know if when the kids ask about them I answer truthfully which would be my normal way or play it down. I also have a family member coming round to provide childcare and leaving them on display will cause questions. I am torn as it has been 5 years and I am allowed to date but it has also only been 3 months and although we like each other a lot there are no guarantees so it could be embarrassing later

You’re overthinking it.
who got you the flowers, a friends - they’re lovely aren’t they and change the subject

Yea op, this

Well done on getting back out there, I hope the flowers are lovely

I would say that your ‘friend’ bought them for you. I think it’s good that your children are aware that you are Tenblankets and not just mum and still have potential to have people want to ‘buy you flowers’. It’s slowly sows the seed to children should you ever want to embark and announce on a serious relationship in the future.

Are you sure your kids would ask? A lot wouldn't. Or you could say (truthfully, maybe?) you're thinking about making flowers a monthly purchase.

I always have fresh flowers in the house, usually bought by me. No one has ever questioned where they came from or who bought them. Can you not just say you picked them up at the supermarket?

As always, first post @Idontgiveagriffindamn nails it. They’re from a friend, aren’t they lovely…. Move the conversation on! As an aside, I love receiving flowers, so just a bit jealous there @Tenblankets

TheChosenTwo · 06/08/2026 20:27

You can either say you bought them for yourself or a friend bought them - it’s absolutely fine 😂

Sleepytimepleaseee · 06/08/2026 20:26

A friend got them
You just saw them and fancied them
They were on offer

Loads you can say.
