Filming in schools on results days

Just had a thought about A level results day (which doesn't affect me directly). How are schools selected by media outlets? Can/do some volunteer themselves or are they always approached by BBC, ITV etc?

Schools get the results a day before, so I think they’d flag up anyone who had a very different grade from expected. They could choose which ones they wanted to put in the public domain.

This. Strict embargo but a select few know who's going to be pleased

I was thinking you meant teenagers filming each other and posting it, and what schools do to stop this, if anything.

My school is in a trust and the trust employs a media agency to come and take pics and write a press release etc. occasionally we have a local journalist who comes too. But we would never allow a child to open their results live, even if we already knew they had done well. I am usually tasked with sounding out the students, once they already have their results, about whether they would be happy to have their photo taken and share their details with the journalist, and then I liaise with them to make sure it is all done sensitively. But other schools will do it differently.

i hate the images which pick 4 photogenic white girls jumping in the air- we would also insist the full diversity of our school body was represented in any coverage.

I'm not sure they do preselect people. There are some classics where live on air they discover they have done much worse and not got into uni. It's a very painful watch.

I think some do open their results live (which is very brave). But generally they just talk to the ones who did well and film a bit of background footage.

Can ylu imagine opening your results "live" and finding out you got much liwer than expected...

Or do the schools carefully steer the crews to the ones with good news?
