I need to do something with my hair, as you can see it’s not straight but it’s not curly either, is the fringe awful? Had it cut last year to hide forehead wrinkles but I feel like it just draws attention to my hooded eyes! Open to all suggestions except dying (I can’t, super allergic to hair dye) this is my natural color, it goes a little darker in winter. I’m 44 if that matters.

I think you've got nice thick hair which could be layered to give it some shape

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 28/07/2026 17:30

How about a softer fringe? And a bit choppy?

I think it’s curlier than you think!
Find a proper curly hairdresser and get them to style it for you, I think you’ll be amazed!!
My hair looks likes this when I brush or leave it. But when I apply a proper curly routine and product I honestly have loose ringlets which last for days

Unless you want to go shorter it can’t be restyled as such but I think you should grow the fringe out a bit and try to make it wavier as your hair looks like it will go that way

I would love curly hair! This was my hair 15 years ago. It was really curly all through childhood until my early thirties. I brought myself the curly girl method products and tried to revive them but it just looked greasy and a little wavy. When it was natural my routine was.. wash everyday.. scrunch in mousse and either upside down diffuser or air dry. Is your hair similar now to these pictures, did you lose your curls and manage to get them back, did it take long, how did you style it when you were at an in between stage?

Yes, it took about three months os perseverance. In the end I went to a curly salon, got a proper cut advice and products. I haven’t looked back

Could you curl it, I have an Amazon curler (sucky up one) and it takes less than 5 minutes to do curls that last a day and add body the next day?

pastadish · 28/07/2026 18:55

My hair also used to be curly the after the children it’s not curly anymore but it’s not straight either. If I put a bit of volumising mousse through it, scrunch it constantly when it’s wet until it dries naturally then it looks nice and wavy but not curly like it did previously

I got one of these, a babaliss curl secret, my hair kept tangling and getting stuck!
it looks ok at the front if I curl it with straighteners but I can’t do the back.

I’m going to give it a go tomorrow, I’m signed off work because I’ve just had surgery .. pretty bored so perfect time to experiment.

I would grow it longer and grow out the fringe. Get it blow dried every now and again when you have a special event
You have beautiful hair!

Plasticdreams · 28/07/2026 19:20

I think a more polished look would be better. You can buy a curling wand to achieve a nice wave.
Scrunching it with moose, like others have suggested, can look a bit dry and messy.
