Will my report affect his DBS checks or a Clare's Law request?

TW: SA

When I was 19 I was in a sexually abusive relationship (rape). He was very controlling and I only reported it 6 years later. A statement was taken. He was arrested and denied it. The policewoman said she believed me. The case was closed due to no further evidence.

I like to think I have protected the next woman. I'm not sure I have. I think he has been in a long term relationship for about 10 years now. She obviously wasn't phased by the arrest and believed whatever story he threaded.

I haven't looked him up in 5 years.

But I'm worried what he can still do. He used to run scouts. Since there was no charge do you think he will pass the checks to be able to still volunteer there? I knew he was considering teaching at one point, has my reporting stopped him doing that? If anyone does a Clares Law will it come back with my claim?

it's been on my mind for years.

yes I've had counselling. I'm doing ok.

I like to feel that my reporting made somewhat of a difference. Feeling like I am protecting another woman or a child and in somewhat disrupting his life.

It jsut makes me feel the system is broken. I know what he did and reported it yet he can still work with kids.

Pp is correct, it could be included as a Clare's Law disclosure (as allegations can be), but it almost certainly won't show on a DBS.

In theory, allegations can be included on an enhanced DBS, but in many years of recruiting such posts I have never once seen this. I was once told this is because the police fear legal action from the individual if there is not very strong evidence to back them up.

Is this taking up a lot of headspace for you generally? Whilst I completely understand why it would, try not to give him that power. Have you had counseling?

Surely it's two different things. I'm sorry for what happened to you but I don't understand why he won't be allowed to run the scout group.

It may show on a Claire's law, but wouldn't show on a dbs if NFA'd
