Mums death

My mum died 2 days ago, since then, my family has fallen apart.

my dad has gone into what I can describe as “practical” mode
my brother has become “fixated” on finding things she has left behind and is hostile to anyone that doesn’t have the answers as to where they are
my uncle & grandparents have disappeared - have not heard from them
her best friends are acting as if my brother is the only person to have lost a parent

and I am, well, numb.
I begun pulling away from her 6 months ago because I knew this was on the horizon and couldn’t deal with it; so think I was preparing myself for this day to happen.

do things get easier / better?
do families ever come back together?

Didn’t want to leave your post unanswered but hope someone with wiser words than mine will be along soon.

I lost both my parents last year and can really relate. Dad died suddenly, mam was already very poorly so we knew it would only be a few months. Sadly, we have all very much gone our own way and things have been said and done that I don’t know if there will be any coming back from. Or if indeed I want to as it made a horrific time even more difficult.

It’s all very sad and we can but hope that time will bring peace.

You are in my thoughts and I hope things get easier for you. Take care xx

When my DM died 5 years ago my DF too went into practical mode, and the same when my sister died last year. It is one way of many that people deal with grief. My DF is now receiving palliative care and I am the only one left, and I know that will deal with it, certainly initially, the same way.

No two people will deal with grief in the same way, and that is fine, no way is right or wrong. Cut everyone (including yourself) some slack and simply allow yourself and everyone else time.

it will get easier but whether that is in a month or a year who knows, but it will.
