Is light spotting common after a transvaginal ultrasound scan?

Hi, I've spotting immediately after the transvaginal US scan. I had one before last year and can't recall if I had spotting then. I should have asked the sonographer but he was busy back on the PC typing notes so I didn't ask.

So is it common for you to get a light bleed after the scan? And do they always ask when was your last period?

I didn’t when I had one recently but I’ve only had the one so can’t say if that’s common, sorry. Hopefully others will be along with more experience.

I had this too. I don't think it's uncommon. Certainly the sonographer and my GP weren't concerned, but said if it continued to let them know. (And it didn't)

They do always ask when your last period was. I don't remember them saying anything about light bleeding, but that may be because I didnt have any so I've just forgotten it. I've looked online and it seems to suggest it can be common and the probe may have irritated your cervix. Contact someone if its heavy bleeding

Yes, totally normal. When I had them in both of my pregnancies, I bled, heavily like a period, for at least a week. Babies were totally fine. It’s just very irritating to the cervix and bleeding/spotting after is normal.

Thanks. Spotting stopped after I got home. I only worried because at the end of the scan it was quite painful like I was being over stretched with the probe.
