Getting changed after school

I’m just really curious about this: do your children get changed after school? I. e. Into casual clothes for the time between uniform and pyjamas. I’ll be honest, mine often don’t. Partly because some nights they’re only home at 6 pm after wraparound, but on other nights, it just doesn’t seem worth it. A school friend of my middle one thought it was really funny one night when he walked past our house and saw my son wearing his school clothes about an hour after getting home, so now I’m wondering if we’re alone in this laziness.

Yes they changed from uniform arriving home after school.

Yes change from uniform as soon as they get home in the hope it cam be used again tomorrow.

Yup. Often pj bottoms and a hoodie if we’re not going out or clothes for various activities

Always.
If not doing an activity where certain kit is required, it’s jeans/t shirt/shorts depending on weather as soon as they get home.

Yes, but not into anything else, unless we are planing to go out of the house they usually spend the evening in their pants, or naked. 🙄

We used to change when I was little to "keep our uniform nice for tomorrow"

My dc come home absolutely filthy already (paint, mud, dust) so only change if they are too dirty to be let in the house. I am not up for washing home clothes unnecessarily, and their uniform is probably the cheapest and most hard wearing stuff they own.

They are 5 and 7 so I am hopeful that the filth levels will change eventually.

My one did that too.
TMI but....when she was in Nursery/Reception she'd be stripping off the uniform on the way home 😂
Thankfully we lived next door to the school.

Yes, mine always changed into their "home clothes" as soon as they got home.

Mine doesn’t change unless he needs to for another activity (eg football training)

Yes because most uniform is polyester, it gets sweaty and smelly. Needs to go right in the laundry basket.

When at primary sometimes they did sometimes they didn’t, I never enforced any particular rules around it.

Now they’re at secondary they change after school, the uniform isn’t as comfortable.

No. She has clean uniform every day anyway, so no keeping it nice for tomorrow.

Uniform imo is for getting mucky - play outside/get pen or paint on it/whatever it doesn't matter. Nothings going to happen to it at home that doesn't happen at school.

I'm also not interested in doing more laundry than necessary, one set of clothes a day is enough - 'home clothes' would inevitably get pen or dinner or garden on them so would be 2 sets of clothes a day to wash.

I bought only the absolute minimum in uniforms as they were expensive and not the easiest to wash and dry, wool jumpers, pleated skirts etc so my dc always changed when they got home either into comfy clothes or pj's.

Nope. He only changes if he's off to an extra curricular activity. He comes home filthy every day so he's got not hope of wearing anything the next day and there seems little point getting more clothing filthy by changing into it before he's had chance to have a bath.

One of mine has sports training or her after school job 3-4 days a week, so those days, definitely. Otherwise, it mostly depends on if they need to wear the same uniform the next day or if I need to wash it, or for example, if my youngest is going to go wading through the muddy river or otherwise getting dirty building something.

No. Ds is a grubby little sod so I’d have to wash his uniform and whatever he changed into.

Yes - into PJs. More comfy and relaxing than staying in uniform at home. Only changes into clothes if going to an activity or something.
I wouldn’t want to, and don’t, stay in work clothes or going out clothes after I come home either.

Mine could never be arsed to change after school. Primary uniform should be very comfortable anyway (and ours wore all cotton not polyester). At secondary they only changed if doing something else.

Your son's school friend has now learnt different families do things differently. That's an important part of growing up.

No, the uniforms are filthy already so we’re not saving anything for the next day. DD is in club until 5:30 anyway so there is realistically 2h before she goes to bed. I’m not doing double washing 🤣

Mine never did. He needed clean uniform daily anyway until about year 4 so what was the point of making another set of clothes dirty?

in secondary he’d mainly remove tie and blazer and chick on tracksuit bottoms but often couldn’t be bothered to change his shirt unless he was going out and I was grateful for less washing!

Both my kids get changed as soon as they get home, I think they want to as I don’t pester them. Sitting in a shirt and tie with a blazer and pants isn’t exactly comfortable my husbands gets changed as soon as he gets home too
