You look in great shape to be honest. I just think you could do with a better shaped jumper.

Do you sew OP? It looks like you have a bit of a sewing set-up behind you.

@BitterHarvest your thread is on Facebook just so you know. Your background could be a giveaway?

How and why is it on Facebook?

If you want to explore the idea of makeup book a John Lewis full makeup consultation (not all the stores do them) which costs £46, which is refunded from any purchases. I went because I didn't feel my makeup made me look how I wanted it too. The changes were: much lighter dewy foundation, repositioning of blusher, much more eye makeup with darker colours near my eyes, lip pencil and lip oil instead of lipstick. I'm a fair bit older than you and can't begin to explain how much better it made me look, people actually said they had never noticed what lovely green eyes I have before! This year I have lost 3.5 stone, remodelled my body at the gym and bought loads of new clothes, but the new makeup was possibly the best bit of the journey.

I'd just like to point you in the direction of Marie-Anne Lecoeur on YT. I've found her videos very helpful.

You are not a minger! But I get it when you are feeling down about yourself, I’ve been there, a few years ago in fact and this is what I did (okay beware I invested ££ but it was worth it ..and you don’t have to do it all!) -

  • Teeth whitening - best investment I have ever made, changed my life.
  • Second best investment was a personal stylist for the day - she was amazing and got me out of skinny jeans! Made me look at clothes different, with more confidence. There are apps that can help with clothes these days. Colour matching makes such a difference but somewhere like John Lewis can do that for you without the need for a stylist. Look at recent trends and use ChatGPT to help. M+S are great at the moment.
  • Botox - small amount and only get it once a year.
  • Space NK girls helped with natural makeup that didn’t cling to my every line but during the day I tend to just wear concealer, tinted moisturiser, lip balm and mascara. LOVE tinted moisturiser, it’s amazing and gives you that slight tanned look. You don’t need to spend a fortune on makeup - google for reviews.
  • If you are larger go to Bravissimo for bras, they are amazing and completely change your shape.

If your skincare is good you are halfway there! The clothes you have on don’t do much for your shape or colour, stay away from the green!! Good luck x

Edited

Whatever you do, please go to a DENTIST not a salon or social media adverts for the teeth whitening. A dentist is only about £300 and will provide safe products.

Sea salt is horrific. Bland and frumpy

A lot of their clothes are, but not all of them. They currently have some lovely knitwear in that isn't bland or frumpy.

There is a lot of Seasalt hatred on MN with some outdated and preconceived ideas, although I agree that some of their clothes should go into room 101.

hey are shapeless and lose their shape even more in the wash

@Sussexserpents That has not been my experience with the few pieces I have owned.

Thank you all for the advice. I’m pleased for the negatives as well as the positives because it gives me somewhere to start. I wear a size 18 because I have a round tummy. Mt natural waist is high and is about 42in my belly is about 45 ins but my hips are 42 ins. So jeans and trousers on the whole fit at waist and are huge on legs. Tops in a smaller size fit beautifully on
shoulders but stretch over the tummy. It’s not a pleasant site and I could never ever tuck in. It would show of the fatty mound in my pubic area. (I’ve had 5 kids this is just the way I am)

Have you ever been checked for an ovarian cyst?

Oakdodger · Today 11:34

If it's the colour of mud or moss, give it a toss.
Have a look online for a colour analysis - this will tell you which colours suit your features best.
Then discover your body shape. This will tell you which cut of cloth will suit you best.
Then go shopping, find stuff in the cut and colour best for you and choose the ones you'll be most confident and comfortable in.
As for makeup, take it easy. Buy yourself a quality tinted SPF, and tinted lip balm for every day wear. For fuller face makeup pop into John Lewis or Boots and ask the women at the makeup counters for advice and help, it's much easier in person than online.

The other thing that will make a massive difference to your look and confidence is hair. Keep your hair pretty and you'll always look a little more polished.

@OhYeahOhYeah

how do you get tret?

Look at Skin and Me as a starting point. Its great stuff.

Planningatripsoon · Today 11:16

Also adding in, as someone who also lives in a rainy climate (I see you’re NI) wide trousers and jeans are so impractical. I struggle a bit with jeans shape but have settled on Levi’s 501 cropped with slim ankle boots/ballet pumps or slim trainers. I’m 53 and can’t be bothered wearing anything that annoys me 🤣

Planningatripsoon · Today 11:08

Hi, based on your most recent post about being conscious of your stomach area, I think dresses would be great for you. I wear with boots and tights in autumn winter. To make you feel more feminine (if that’s what you want?) I would go for softer shapes and textures. A v neck or round neck. How about something like this? You could wear a thin polo under it when it’s cooler. Dresses are quite practical too. I’m a teacher and I live in them!

I think your issue is one of just not being very fashionable - and that’s fine if it’s not your goal!

to ease you in, I’d recommend googling ‘Next The Set’ which will bring up mix and match coordinated basics such a fine knits, hoodies, t shirts etc

it’s a good starting point

What do you do for yourself for pleasure and fun? That certainly helps with feeling good in yourself and about yourself. Book a department store personal shopper person to help with a style you like, comfort clothes in softer colours. I use a plain aloe Vera gel on skin at night and a simple moisturiser on morn, ive just started self care Sundays where I do collegen mask hair mask paint my nails ect. Hrt too I'd die without it both normal and vaginal estrogen have made me feel a lot more perky in myself as does creatine lionsmane biotin, get your brows shapped tinted and eyelashes for more definition on face without having to do make up. Wear matching undies for yourself. Read erotic fiction...if you feel a bit more sexy you look it. I'm single but these things have started to make me feel less like my nan

Floisme · Today 10:56

I wasn't going to post again because, if it were me, I'd find all this advice overwhelming but op, why on earth are you thinking of getting rid of clothes you love? That brings back memories of Trinny and Susannah at their worst.

OhYeahOhYeah · Today 10:52

alcovecupboards · Yesterday 23:25

If you've got the money - find a decent professional make-up artist to give you two looks (day and evening), recommend products and teach you how to do it properly yourself. Then find a good hair dresser and get a decent new cut - and possibly colour - and keep on top of it. Find a stylist too - proper one none of this works in Selfridges and thinks they have an eye jobby - and get them to teach you what works for your shape and colouring and then take an interest in fashion and then work out what you like you in - and do that. The key is finding things that you like. And if you want - really take care of your skin, facials, decent products (tret especially) and remember that botox is your friend.

Tret is an absolute game changer isn’t it!

They are shapeless and lose their shape even more in the wash. I’m convinced they only good on the very tall slim models

SexyFrenchDepression · Today 10:44

Nylonflares · Today 10:39

The jumper looks ok on the young slim model but is not becoming on the @BitterHarvest (I speak as someone similar)

And I agree no White Stuff or Seasalt, they’re fine, but not if you’re looking for a glow up

I dont even think it looks good on the model, the outfit the model is wearing looks old and frumpy but she can get away with it as shes so slim. Paired with something else perhaps but those jeans look dreadful. Baggy stuff on tiny people doesnt look great, in particular as you get older. The oversized look is great for teens/early twenties but 40s/50s not so much (IMO).

This is easy though as you can say this to chat gpt and it will give you ideas for what is flattering for your shape. Sometimes its not what you expect to be flattering that is.

go out to catch up with friends?
you can wear makeup up then

Your at home so do you need to be wafting around in something possibly glam and floaty . You look warm and relaxed .
What is it you envisage wearing at home ?
Perhaps you could try a dress with a gilet on top or a nice autumn skirt with a bright colour jumper etc . Maybe some more colour to your wardrobe .

@Iclyn

a dress with a gillet on top?! Ewww

read the first few sentences of the OP and a glimpse of the picture and I thought this was going to be a sarcastic post about how men age well (not all do!)

I love the colours in your outfit and feel they will complement a soft summer. It’s just the fit of the jumper which lets it down, it’s way too baggy and shapeless.

I hate bright raspberry colours and white shirts underneath. I think that’s an ageing look. I’d also hate fake tan!

Lisa Eldridge seamless skin enhancing tint is perfect and I think would suit someone unused to wearing foundation or much makeup generally.

Plus you’re not a minger, don’t say that about yourself.

if you’re wanting a glow up and new look, go for a style consultant, someone running their own business and who has good reviews.

The colours OP is wearing is complete opposite of soft summer, can guarantee she would look 100 times better is the soft summer pallette.

Raspberry/white would look good on me, definitely great colours for me to wear as long its the blue toned rasperry colours, my friend who is autumn would look dreadful in them.

It isnt just the colours though, the fit like you say isn't right either.

Yes! I love (loved) seasalt things trousers are white stuff. When they first came to Belfast I spent a fortune because I love their stuff but hey it’s all going on Vinted!

Definitely no white stuff or sea salt-you are much too young. And really look at your colour palate-that is doing you no favours. I also find trousers that are too short, showing socks is not a good look
