Where do over 55's buy their clothes?

I'm well over 55. In the last 3 years or so purchases have been a mixture of in shop and online from these shops.

I'd love to buy a few new things but can't seem to find anything in the shops as the colours are all horrible and tops are all short in the body.

I hate Internet shopping as you can't feel the quality and I hate the palaver of returning stuff.

Can't see me buying anything new this year.

My local charity shops - I live in a v fancy area and these are packed to the gills with high quality designer brands. I have Agnes B, Joseph, Armani etc lots of occasion wear so try hard not to get too distracted with that. Shoes, boots, trainers, underwear and sportswear are the only things I buy new. I haven’t tried online / Vinted - I enjoy the instant gratification. Also some of the best buys are scarves, belts, bags, jewellery - it’s nice to have a collection of nice accessories to pull an oufit together.

Yep, all of these for me too (esp Reiss) . Plus Mint Velvet, Hobbs, Phase Eight, Karen Millen, even Oasis in the sales recently. Next (on line) has a huge range of brands these days, though I never shop in store.

I don’t think age matters - I just buy what appeals to me and suits me.

Im a bit baffled by your post. Do you think that past a certain age everyone suddenly changes where they shop? I shop in any shop I feel like where they are clothes that I want to buy. The security shutter doesn’t suddenly metaphorically descend in front of me because of how old I am 😂

WRT Next, I agree that their stores are not always filled with the best stuff, but their online offering is very varied and they have certainly nailed the online shopping experience. I don’t think physical stores are as good any more. If you work for M&S, don’t you get a discount? There is loads of choice there too and again online is best

Mostly Hobbs, Ghost, Reiss, Phase8, White Stuff for day to day. I bought most of my “dressy” occasion clothes from LK Bennet, I haven’t found an alternative since they’ve gone.

M&S, John Lewis, Seasalt, Next. I like plain colours, muted prints, black, blue, grey, dark red, must be natural fibres.

I'm 46, so not quite the same age, but I really love matalan in the summer, primark for winter. I live near a designer outlet, and I do like joules, although some of their clothes look so dated and dull now, but good quality. I also like tog 24, and occasional bits from new look. I used to live in next clothing, but I find it a poor fit and never see anything that catches my eye. I also like fat face and superdry. I like zara clothing, but always feel fat shamed in there as nothing seems to fit!. I'm a 12/14.

I hate this idea that your age defines what you wear! I follow the Elegant Stylist on Insta; she’s 60 and really doesn’t let age define her.

I wear a lot of vintage. I buy and sell on Vinted, operating a strict ‘one year’ policy. I used to wear a lot of Kemi Telford; elasticated waists, pockets etc. Recently I’ve been selling these, and opting for vintage 80s. The padded shoulders and nipped in waists suit my pear shape. I also wear a lot of black with a pop of leopard, like a bag, shoes or waistcoat.

I do have a collection of really great coats; mostly vintage. They really define my outfits in the autumn and winter.

I seem to have acquired quite a collection of dresses from Roman (online). They can be a bit hit and miss and I've had to send a few back, but they have a really wide range of different styles.

Right now, I’m wearing black stonewash slim Zara jeans, a grey Primark T shirt and a dark and light grey striped Zara cardigan, with M&S knickers and John Lewis socks. I’m probably not what the OP means by ‘look nice’, but it’s my look and it works for me. I guess it depends who and what one is dressing for. My criteria are comfort, easy care, suited to a very active lifestyle, and suitable for walking, the tube, Teams meetings, theatre, drinks and a meal in the evening. If I’m being formal, I wear tailored tweed trousers (also Zara), a cream M&S T shirt and a ruinously expensive jacket from Welligogs.

I'm 53, size 16, sometimes a 14 or 12 on top half. Mainly Toast, Hush, Free People, Cos and ASOS. Basics from M & S. Odd supermarket bits and bobs if really good.

Zara and Marks and Spencer are my go to for clothes.. occasionally the odd item in new look if I’m in town and I’ve bought a few items from Asos their own brand which were nice enough
Next is not my style at all I always have to size down I. bought a T-shirt recently that looked so nice in the shop but not nice on it was too loose around the neckline and that was a size down..nearly forgot Stradivarius are ok for some things and I got a lovely dress and trench jacket from there recently I’m also 57

I’m a 57 year old size 16 apple with broad shoulders. I find Whistles do stuff that works for me. I do use John Lewis a fair bit. In theory I like ‘& other stories’ but their stuff rarely fits me. I bought a jacket from Uniqlo the other day. I’m afraid I avoid Seasalt and Fat Face and White Stuff like the plague, I look terrible in all of that stuff. When I’m feeling flush the occasional Cos piece is nice.

55, size 16 and fairly informal.
Tu, Toast, Fatface, Plumo, Komodo, M&S, Acai, Jigsaw, George, Crew Clothing, Levi’s (but not jeans, none fit!), Gap @ Next, Land’s End, Hush …. I don’t have a single “go to”, although it used to be Espirit (RIP) and Boden before they went weird and I was slimmer!
