Wedding attire - is this ok?

Hi, I have never been great at clothes. I often seem to get things slightly wrong. I am 56, 5' 6 and a size 18 currently (bloody menopause). We are going to a wedding in a two weeks time (family member) and the invite says "Dress to Impress". I am not that confident in myself at this weight but I do care what I look like.

I have ordered this dress:

And these shoes:

https://airandgracelondon.com/collections/flat-shoes/products/anais-olive-suede-and-gold-leather-pointed-t-bar-flats

I intend to wear a double-layered gold necklace (Mint Velvet) and have ordered a suede olive green clutch bag. I can no longer wear heels so shoes need to be flats.

Can anyone with advise me if they think this is a good combination.

Thanks!

I think it's a beautiful outfit, but see how the length looks when it's on. You may find that having it shortened slightly makes you look taller, especially as you can't wear heels. Ballerina length on a model is often too long for us smaller rounder women.

I'd say 5'6" and size 18 I'd think of as more statuesque than short and round!

The model is Katya Wildman and it says she is 5' 4". She's 2 inches shorter than you.

Oh thank you. I did google yesterday to find out who the model was but didn’t think to check her height.

Gorgeous, OP.

The only difference for me is I'd get the shoes in red, as I don't need much excuse to wear red shoes. The shoes you have chosen are lovely though anyway, it's just my personal taste.

TemuTrinny · Yesterday 08:47

Perfect and the shoes are gorgeous! Also love the sound of your bag. Well chosen!

The outfit you have chosen is gorgeous, both dress and shoes. When somebody else says they're not sure about an element of your outfit, it possibly means that they wouldn't choose it for themselves.
Don't forget you need to feel comfortable and stylish and your choice of outfit will make you feel that. Apart from anything else, nobody will be looking at your shoes on the day except you.

@Fleur405 thank you for that. I’m hopeful that they’ll be ok on the night. I’m tempted to buy the chocolate brown also, they are gorgeous.

@Williteverrainagain and I’m very tempted to get the olive green! I’ve also got the gold ones though so unsure if I can justify that.

Beautiful dress.

Fitflop shoes are also very good at keeping the 'plantar f' at bay. I find them more comfortable than Vionic and they have some lovely styles. I can happily wear their wedge heels but they do some lovely ballet flats if your flats may cause you issues.

Thank you, I’ll take a look at those.

Firstly I have those shoes in the chocolate brown. They are AMAZINGLY comfy and I get loads of compliments on them. Love the olive green.

Dress is also a great choice. You’re going to look super chic!

Thank you also for introducing me to that site. I've never heard of it before and think I can ccertainly find some keepers there.

You will probably know Bombshell Ltd though, the company that went into liquidation last year.

Katya Wildman is the former director of that company.

I really like the dress and love the shoes. I had plantar fascitis but keep it at bay now by stretching my hamstrings at the first twinge. I also wear arch inserts (not constantly) and that helps too.

Thank you. I’m over it now and do the same. I love vionic shoes. I have mainly arch support shoes and insoles. These will be a one off.

Please don’t come at me people as I think I may be the minority but I’ve always been taught to avoid a dress where the majority is white even with a print like that. Also that you should avoid red to weddings. That said it’s a gorgeous dress, very stylish. I hope you have a wonderful time and feel gorgeous and confident no matter what you wear x

Well I wore a red dress when I got married!!!

I do agree. And I wish I could but I cannot wear even a small heel. I’ve got feet/ankle issues and if I wore a block heel even I would be out of them and into flats within the hour. I might even struggle with what I’ve bought as they are so flat (plantar fasciitis) and have to resort to trainers after an hour.

I absolutely love the shoes! Very elegant with some bling, but not ott. 🩷
