Everyone is welcome, and the thread disappears after 90 days.

Thank you for the last thread @lougle. I hope the doctor was helpful and DD2 isn’t feeling too rubbish this morning.

DS1 has used the last of his EOTAS hours today. There will be at least a few weeks before the EHCP is finalised and funding restarts. He will hopefully have his operation during that time, but it is still going to feel like a long time without that provision.

Question about work experience: we've put DS down for gardening (his first choice) and working with animals for a work experience placement which is supposed to be in Feb. Would a child's 1:1 typically go with them to the placement? I can see Miss P (DS 1:1) doing all the actual work which is what she seems to do in practical classes at school.

roaringdragon · 08/10/2026 09:50

@Lougle I hope the pre-op goes well.

That sounds painful @Zzzzzs. Touching all the wood around, my back hasn’t been too bad lately. The increase in care hours and being far more careful with what I am doing has helped. I wish I had looked after it more carefully when DS1 was younger.

I have a GP appointment later.

DD2 has her pre-op today. So it's DD2 to college, DD1 to hydro, back to college, home, DD1 to Nanny & Grandad's, DD2 to hospital. Excitement.

Zzzzzs · 07/10/2026 23:07

Poor you @roaringdragon bites sound painful. Mine is not a biter but I have a permanently sore shoulder from repeated yanking. I know to keep that elbow tucked in but I forget and I suspect the joint is permanently damaged. I always think if you and your back when it has a bad patch. It can’t be helped.

drums and rebound and haircut today. Not much painting so tomorrow I need to be up early. Dh may take a day off and help. I have a very kind husband.

Lougle · 07/10/2026 20:25

Unfortunately, even the most loving biter is a cesspit of bacteria.

Thank you, I'm glad I insisted on meeting early in the term so we have a plan.

roaringdragon · 07/10/2026 19:52

@Lougle hurray for DD2’s car arriving. I’m glad the meeting was productive and DD3 is going to start the GCSEs.

Thanks all. DS1 is a biter so I’m no stranger to bites. Lots don’t break the skin. Of those that do, the majority heal fine. This one hasn’t, though. I have needed a few courses of co-amoxiclav over the years. I suspect that is what I will be given again.

My understanding is that human bites are dirtier than cat or dog bites. Get thee to a doctor!

LathkillDale · 07/10/2026 16:05

@roaringdragon ITA with @Lougle. I don’t know how human bites compare to cats for bacteria; but our neighbour ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics for a cat bite!

Motability have written to offer us another 15 months lease on DD1’s car. We are going to accept, because I can’t get a new equivalent on their scheme atm; and it’s a good trade off between taking a wheelchair in the boot, without being too big for me and the staff to park!

Lougle · 07/10/2026 15:46

@roaringdragon sorry to hear about the bite. Sooner rather than later for that one, please!

I had a productive meeting with school. They're starting the GCSE courses and I've said that if the LA turn down the second year of funding, I'll appeal (and win). I told them that if they don't start them, she may as well leave now.

DD2's car has arrived. We collect on Saturday.

roaringdragon · 07/10/2026 15:43

@LathkillDale what a relief that DH caught DD1!

@Zzzzzs well done on the painting.

@Violasilkie I’m glad you enjoyed the spa.

@Lougle I’m pleased DD2 is feeling a little better. Sorry it has been a difficult few days with DD1. I hope school can resolve some of DD3’s issues. It’s annoying you had to chase the GP to provide the right care for DM.

I need to get a GP appointment. I have a bite from DS1 that isn’t healing and is looking infected.

I’m laughing at the audacity of a chef who only does “pink or well done”. Were you not even slightly tempted to offer to teach him how? I hope it was yummy regardless.

Glad diet is helping a little @Lougle . Poor girls they are all carrying so much (and presumably you carry them all). Next month will be better.

Must go do today’s painting. When we’re all old shall we just be lazy and not do quite so much…or anything at all.

For us, activity comes in bursts - like when DD1 is home 30% of the time, or we are looking after DGC or there’s some crisis with DD2. In between, we get over the exhaustion, do some work or we are looking for things for the house.

So, we drove to DD1’s care home on Saturday to take her to KFC and then Old Trafford to watch a rugby cup final. She was so excited, when we parked on the blue badge space in front of the ground, she got out of the car and ran off! DH had to run after her, or we’d have never have found her among 71,000 people! During the presentations and fireworks, she was so excited, I thought she’d explode! We stayed in a hotel overnight, took her back after breakfast and drove home.

I had lunch with DDIL on Monday, as I thought she might want to talk about DGC. DGD had a frazzling meltdown last week before school - which made her late for the SALT assessment. We are babysitting DGC on Thursday, so hopefully it will be easy to get them in bed! 😵‍💫 DGD is usually much better for us, than she is with her parents!

In the meantime, DH has reminded me, it’s VAT return time!

Thanks @DrSpouse Hope you can get your massage and it helps. We had a lovely time at the spa, had a treatment which included massage and it helped my sinuses which I've had issues with since chemo so I told DH I need to go more often 😂had a nice meal and went to pools / steam rooms etc. I ordered steak and the waiter said how would you like that and I said medium and he said chef says we only do pink or well done so which do you want? I thought an English pink probably is medium and was right, it was perfect. A little nervous would get French pink but thought could swap with DH in that case.

Got back and DS still hasn't taken a bath but was in the kitchen preparing things with lights on across all of downstairs. We went in back way to avoid cat issues and this surprised DS and he shut the door and then went to living room. He had left his bathroom wide open. Seemed happy enough just strange behaviour as usual. Looking hopeful for him cooperating with electricians on Thursday.

Sorry for difficult day @Lougle

Well done on painting @Zzzzzs Hopefully your DS won't do what mine is doing over my white newly painted walls of putting muddy handprints and snot on them, like having a 6 foot toddler.

Lougle · 06/10/2026 23:00

Well done for squeezing the painting in @Zzzzzs .

It's been a hard couple of days with DD1. Anxious and in pain. I had DD3 sobbing in my lap this evening and had to send a long list of issues to her tutor. DD2 is feeling a little better. The soup and bread for lunch and dinner strategy seems to be helping.

Zzzzzs · 06/10/2026 22:29

Exhausting day attempting to balance too many jobs into too little time. I’ve been painting all day and have another 5 days to go squeezed in between ds’s activities. We have our meds finally but changing up this week. Timing couldn’t be worse (but when is it ever a good time for your child to be all over the place). So far not much has changed though ds does seem to sleep better.
Honks to all. Things will be calmer here in a few weeks.

drspouse · 06/10/2026 16:52

Enjoy the spa! I'm trying to book a massage as my shoulders are so tense. Work not DCs though.

Violasilkie · 06/10/2026 13:57

DS had left his downstairs bathroom open which is good so went in and cleaned it from plumber and DS and also put a couple of shelves back. Took part of doorframe off so we could get drier in so now drier and washing machine are up and running. Put all DSs washing on. DS seems very calm again so we aren't totally sure what yesterday was about but suspect he expected a complete bathroom redone in 1 day with jacuzzi bath. I also cleaned the kitchen and laundry room. Now off to spa for the evening.

Violasilkie · 06/10/2026 08:36

Thanks @Lougle

Sorry you had to sort out your Mums meds on top of everything else but glad they have helped. Glad you got 30 mins for just DD3. Sorry DD1 is struggling.

We didn't get drier done as DH was away for 2.5 hours with his piano lesson then when he got back he said where's the cat and we realised last time we saw him was at the end of gardening when I went for a bath at 5pm or so. Then DS had gone through French doors to garden so thought he might be there but nope. Strange thing was I heard him 3 times, he has a very distinctive trill noise. We eventually found him at 2.20am at front of house in the road and then in our lane. Luckily not really any traffic here at night and was mild. He came back and then ate for 35 minutes non stop and seems fine. I think it was probably DH who let him out as it was dark and he was rushing to piano. DH also never wears his hearing aids so doesn't hear anything. DS did cooperate with house searches for the cat a few times letting us search his bathroom and cupboard. The silkies had been free ranging in the garden as well but don't think he went in there at all as they didn't make any noise and he doesn't seem to have worked out he can climb /jump over fences/trees. He's only got out a couple of times before at the front and both times before he just sat in the middle of the road and in the back garden he sits looking lost crying as there's no food. He always looks like he wants to kill birds but he's the worlds worst hunter and takes 10 minutes decided what to do wiggling his bottom and got scared of the chickens. DH was getting quite frantic, the person who told me I could get a small girl cat if I insisted but DH is totally besotted.

Lougle · 05/10/2026 19:32

I hope you get it sorted @Violasilkie .

I've spent about 2 hours over the last couple of days trying to sort my DM out. She has become incredibly anxious. It turns out that the psychiatrist asked for one of her medications to be reduced by half in September. Instead of doing that, the GP surgery stopped it completely. She gets a tray from the pharmacy so it's not always obvious to my DF when changes happen. The PRN dose of the same medication was allegedly issued with her tray in September, but DF swears blind it wasn't in the bag, and the pharmacy say they definitely did put it in the bag. I've searched his house and it's not there. I went to the surgery today and said they needed to give me the medication today. They said the Dr would prescribe it after clinic but I pointed out that the pharmacy would be closed and I need it today. So I sat and waited until they produced it. DF says DM is already calmer.

Meanwhile, DD1 has been very distressed and in pain. We've just got her into bed so I'm hoping she'll fall asleep. Last night it took a long time for her to go to sleep. She can't understand why I won't take her to the hospital.

I managed to catch 30 minutes with DD3 on her own. We only went to post a parcel at a shop post office, so not quality time, but we were in her car alone so she could talk without being interrupted.

Good luck with PIP renewal form @PurringTiger We have still to receive ours - award runs to start of June next year. 8 months to go.

DS hasn't taken a bath for a week, very unlike him, but we've had works going on so thought it was that. Said to DH we will go and garden as then DS will take a bath. So we go in garden for a couple of hours and tidy up there from the plumber, the silkies, leaves etc and we plant a couple of plants but strangely DS does not take a bath still. I say to him he should take a bath as we will need to come in at 4.30pm for DH to go to his piano lesson and he gets annoyed and starts banging and kicking. I tell him to stop but that just annoys him. So play guess the problem with DH.

We know DS used the bath after the electrics and he's left all electrics in place so can't be that. We know he's cooperated with the moving of the washer and drier knowing that was happening so presumably is happy about that. I then say to DH did you tell DS its fine to use the washing machine now and he says no so I tell him that but he's still cross. Then I think maybe its the drier as it isn't plugged in and we need to alter the door frame to get it in but can just be plugged in anywhere as long as just it on socket. So tell him that and he's still cross. Tell him we will sort it tonight or tomorrow. Still cross. The only other thing I could think of is maybe he thought plumber would put his bath in now but it needs to be made and not due until later in the month. I told him this and he was still banging but it was much lighter banging. When we came in from gardening he had moved to living room but still not taken a bath.

We go out tomorrow afternoon to the spa for the afternoon / evening but will see if we can move the drier in before then and maybe wash his towels. Think the electricians may have got them dusty though he normally just takes someone else's towel. He's back out in the garden and seems fine again now. We will see if he takes a bath tomorrow.

I believe our LA thinks it best to help parents and service users claim benefits, so the LA can charge them for social care, whenever possible!

roaringdragon · 05/10/2026 17:13

@PurringTiger as @Lougle said, the important thing is knowing if DD can’t do something reliably, that is safely, to an acceptable standard, repeatedly, and within a reasonable time period, she can’t do it.

It is worth spending some time reading about what counts and what doesn’t. For example, for activity 1 some people focus on not being able to take food out of the oven which isn’t considered and some people talk about not being able to carry a pan from the sink to the hob which also isn’t considered.

Not my LA but this is the best free guide I’m aware of. Although it needs amending for activity 1 because draining food at a sink isn’t considered. It is written for the original form but can be used for the AR1 too.

Even though the current AR1 form doesn’t ask if there have been changes or not, where there hasn’t been a change for an activity, some people like to include ‘no change’ in their response.

PurringTiger · 05/10/2026 17:08

@Lougle thank you. @LathkillDale not sure. Benefits and work looks like it’s what I need. It’s got a good bit of detail on what I need to include.

PIP renewal form has arrived. Is there a place I can read how best to articulate DD’s difficulties please?

Do you have a Money Advice Unit in your LA?
