Everyone is welcome, and the thread disappears after 90 days.

Thank you for the last thread @lougle. I hope the doctor was helpful and DD2 isn’t feeling too rubbish this morning.

DS1 has used the last of his EOTAS hours today. There will be at least a few weeks before the EHCP is finalised and funding restarts. He will hopefully have his operation during that time, but it is still going to feel like a long time without that provision.

@roaringdragon I hope you feel better soon. Could it be the antibiotics aren’t working?

Lougle · 10/10/2026 19:36

You might need to go back on Monday.

DD1 is crying in pain again. That's three times this week.

roaringdragon · 10/10/2026 18:48

@Lougle no tracking. It is looking quite red and angry with some pus, but it isn’t getting any worse.

OP posts:
Lougle · 10/10/2026 18:36

You should have seen some difference by now. Is there any tracking from the wound? I'm sure you know the red flags for getting seen urgently, so I won't lecture you, but I do agree with your GP.

roaringdragon · 10/10/2026 18:34

@Lougle DS1 had carers last night and does tonight as well. He has his normal carer hours this week and some of his EOTIS provision restarts.

I have 5 days of co-amoxiclav. Today is day 3 and I can’t say it looks any better. The GP took a swab, redressed the bite and gave me a lecture for not going earlier.

Thanks @Lougle Sorry DD1 has been screaming a lot and DD3 is finding it hard to get time alone. Did DD1 do the hydro OK this week?

Thanks @Fififizz Hope you can find something that makes you feel better.

Thanks @JumpersFluffy Hope the door painting is going OK, 10 is a lot.

Sorry you are tired @roaringdragon Hope your DS is recovering OK from the operation and you got antibiotics.

DS was doing his in then out of the house / garden every 5 minutes thing and just went out as we were coming down to garden and I said to him we are just about to garden as he normally stays in then and takes a bath and he's not had a bath for a while and we have been playing guess the problem on that one. We have done everything we think it could be - last ones putting a post it note about boiler switch move and mending the tumble drier. Anyway we notice he is using the tumble drier so that's good and he's used the boiler switch so in theory bathing should resume. He then quickly dashes back in we go out to do the garden / clear what plumber left in garden, took about 3.5 hours and he takes a bath during this. So bathing is solved.

I got a Waitrose order yesterday and DS was straight into the blackberries, 1.5 packs gone in minutes. We are having their steak pie tonight as DS loves that as well. Nice day here.

Lougle · 10/10/2026 18:21

@roaringdragon I'm sorry you're tired. Did you get antibiotics? Do you have any respite this week?

roaringdragon · 10/10/2026 18:16

@Lougle I’m sorry this week has been tough and there’s no end in sight. I hope the school can help with DD3’s school issues.

@Fififizz I’m sorry you are struggling. @LathkillDale unfortunately, annual carer checks aren’t a universal offer across the country.

@JumpersFluffy I don’t envy you painting the doors! I hope today went well and you can have a quiet few days to recuperate.

@Violasilkie it’s great you have a date for the shed.

I am so very tired today.

Just popping on. My head’s still scrambled. Sorry to everyone who’s struggling with things.
@Lougle I’m sorry to read that. It doesn’t sound sustainable, I hope the SW can help.
@drspouse That’s awful but in the same breath unsurprising. I think with all the let downs we just become desensitised to how awful the system is.
@Violasilkie Glad things are still moving ahead and you enjoyed your spa trip.

I’m still struggling with burnout/compassion fatigue and out of necessity letting things slide. I can’t explain the situation/state I’m in very well but I know that you all are understand.

Have you had a carer’s check up at your GP’s recently? Carers are supposed to get one every year. I had mine last week. Last year, they did me a social prescription for a course of mindfulness, and yoga. I’d never believed in mindfulness, but the course was fantastic - more because it was about compassion for ourselves, and ways to approach problems mentally.

At my practice, patients can have a longer chat with a mental health nurse, or get 6 sessions of counselling for free on the NHS. It’s a start!

JumpersFluffy · 10/10/2026 13:16

Do you have any real life support @Fififizz we have a weekly drop in coffee morning locally. I’ve only been a couple of times but it does help to know you’re not alone. Or is it worth having a health mot at GP incase it’s something underlying too? Not sure what age you are but the 40-50s is very challenging without the stress of send child.

Sorry things are so challenging @Lougle.

Good things are moving along on the house projects @Violasilkie

Sorry I can’t rember who was painting but I feel your pain I’ve been slowly sanding, undercoating & painting our internal doors. It’s an old house I’ve got 10 to do and just finished no2. I’m taking them off & then we put the old baby gate on to stop the dog getting in where she shouldn’t. It’s an endless task. But today a break as I’m at sporting event with the eldest competing whilst I’m doing pop up cafe duties. Once a year I help out the club, the rest of the time I’m just too tired. Going to be shattered later from using up all my social battery for sure, but it’s a nice environment.

I was trying to be optimistic!

drspouse · 10/10/2026 08:26

@Lougle gets the prize.

Lougle · 10/10/2026 08:25

I think none.

@Violasilkie good progress and it sounds like DS is really communicating his cooperation!

This week has been tough. DD1 has been screaming in pain for hours at a time. I can't talk to DD3 about anything without DD1 joining in which is really upsetting DD3. DD3 has had a difficult time with school behaviour (other people's), so I had to talk to her on the driveway for privacy. The psychologist has emailed the SW again to highlight how unsustainable our situation is.

No of SLT sessions DS is supposed to have had so far this term: 10.
Guess how many he's actually had?

One?

Violasilkie · 09/10/2026 20:53

Date for shed delivery here now given today as mid November but that works OK as it gives more of a gap on jacuzzi bath.

Violasilkie · 08/10/2026 17:50

The other good thing is we can now have the boiler on in the day though we put a sign to show DS again how to turn it on / off as its been moved and this could be the issue with the bath. He turned it off last night so definitely knows where it is.

Violasilkie · 08/10/2026 17:27

I laughed with DH about the pink or well done too @Zzzzzs. Hope the painting goes well and glad you have a lovely husband.

Hope you can get meds for the bite quickly @roaringdragon

Glad DD2 is having her pre op @Lougle and great news about the car.

Glad about the car @LathkillDale

We've had 2 electricians in today who have changed the consumer unit. DS cooperated with it all - we told him and he went to garden / shed a bit early and we got him food / drink he could take there as he prefers that and we told him and he came back in 4 minutes before they were due to arrive and took the food and drink. The door rang for them at same time and DS left back for the garden / shed and left access. They were here for about 1/2 a day so that worked well. They said there's one fault they can't pinpoint but otherwise all done and we can't see anything not working. They tried for 2 hours to find a fault. They will look again when they come back to fit jacuzzi bath. The cat was fascinated and was gazing at one of them and then the guy said beautiful cat and gave the cat a stroke. We hoovered downstairs and sorted a few more things. Feeling a bit fluish but we are ahead of schedule - bath doesn't come until around 21st and shed around 29th.

In the night DH could smell cooking with garlic and went downstairs to investigate and discovered DS was cooking 2am chicken kievs for himself. The work seems to have made DS relocate himself and every night he's in his room /living room all night which is better and in the day he wanders the garden and goes to the shed, coming in from time to time for drinks / food /ipad etc. I just hope the new shed and the new bath don't arrive at the same time though we will find a workaround if it does. At least the guys said they will put new summerhouse up in an impressive 90 minutes.

Question about work experience: we've put DS down for gardening (his first choice) and working with animals for a work experience placement which is supposed to be in Feb. Would a child's 1:1 typically go with them to the placement? I can see Miss P (DS 1:1) doing all the actual work which is what she seems to do in practical classes at school.

DD1 did gardening for work experience at a stately home while at school, although actually she enjoyed working in the cafe more and talking to all the elderly customers. I have the photos of her working, which I assume were taken by a TA.

I can’t believe the school would have let her go on her own, given she had 1:1 care on the house after school, funded by the LA and they were asking the LA for funding for 1:1 in class, due to the seizures.

Lougle · 08/10/2026 10:39

@drspouse y at DD2&3's school they went with them and then adapted to how they were managing. So they largely just sat somewhere unless they were needed.

roaringdragon · 08/10/2026 09:56

@drspouse there’s no set answer. It depends on the individual circumstances.

@Lougle I hope the pre-op goes well.

That sounds painful @Zzzzzs. Touching all the wood around, my back hasn’t been too bad lately. The increase in care hours and being far more careful with what I am doing has helped. I wish I had looked after it more carefully when DS1 was younger.

I have a GP appointment later.

Lougle · 08/10/2026 06:33

DD2 has her pre-op today. So it's DD2 to college, DD1 to hydro, back to college, home, DD1 to Nanny & Grandad's, DD2 to hospital. Excitement.
