Using the For Sale board in classifieds to sell brand new goods as a business

I'v got rather confused by this. I thought it was just for selling unwanted and used items. Has this changed?

I think this particular seller is an exception which i was surprised no one picked up on, normally the board seems pretty up front and it's good it's got more popular lately but it does rely on goodwill and she is trading on that...as i say if it's acceptable I will do it tooLOL but I don't actually think it is>>>and I also think the charity aspect is misleading...

It's the surprising amount of pregnancy tests etc available with "I can get more if needed.." that gets me.

I've definately noticed a lot of people lately who have suddenly appeared on the for sale board but never post anywhere else. One of these seemed to be who got some free stuff offered by a kind mn'er then never paid postage. Very unfair THing is though, i suppose with people selling single items we can't stop it without closing the selling thread which would be a shame as its really handy!!

The charity is a separate account according to ebay shop which sells a couple of items it is not the main business nor the sales she is putting on mn...

I wondered about this one too but naively thought (from the front page) it was all for charity. Have read it more carefully now and in fact none of it is!

I agree, should be business ads or nothing. I will email too.

i have emailed mn, will say though that part of her shop helps a charity but surely if those goods were supporting her charity she would say???

5 seems very little though. In the past I have sold, for very reasonable prices IMO, - and given away even more - various no longer needed items. Things like baby monitor, clothes, toys, books. But I have not actually made much out of doing so.

But it is the fact that some people only seem to use MN for the classifieds only, or appear to be selling a lot of BNWT items, that seems a bit off.

I think it's fine for bona fide clear outs or people moving or duplicate presents etc but guessing her turnover from the business she is selling out of is about £1000 per week...

Maybe there should be a set amount of stuff each person can sell. Say 5 bits of clothing. Anything else should incur a percentage fee to mumsnet from each item sold. Just an idea?

I sent an email yesterday but no reply yet, so i thought maybe they were OK as the ads have been in for several days and no one else seemed concerned.

As I say if it's allowed I will do the same myself as it is clearly very good way to do it...

ive just had alook and there is one particular poster who advertises and i know its new stuff from her ebay shop as i have seen the shop and she links to it saying that there is choice of colours etc, surely thats not on??

You know I was thinking similar last night, there does seem to be more and more classified ads, for several brand new items, and by posters who only post in the For Sale sections, and not on rest of boards. The for sale forum is so big now.

if someone is using the for sale boards to trade from that is not on, they should use the small business ones, if worried email mumsnet.
