swearing/names

something has bothered me recently... i agree with the swearing policy, although I myself am not offended by swearing... i think it's a good idea...

but there is someone with a name that really bothers me... phucknuckle.

i don't know why it bothers me so much... but it does.... if you read this phucknuckle, it isn't personal!!!

But just was thinking... if it was spelled fucknuckle then people would complain... why is a ph different?

i think its offensive to have your "handle" as a derivitive of your real name or a foodstuff

well Nightynight - I don't have any books in my house called the "bible" of x - apart from 'real' bibles - nor do I have any stories/dvds/videos with 'devils' in them.

sorry just adding to this thread as although it's not actually 'swearing' as a name I do find rather offensive when people change their name to things such as "The Devil"........

In the same way that Pagans may find someone calling them a 'witch' offensive I (as a Christian) find it very offensive and off putting when people call themselves the Devil.....

I worked in a factory for years; was in a biker group for years; swear amongst like-minded adults and I still didn't see the f*ck in phucknuckle or see the sexual implications.

I just thought it was funny - kind of along the lines of real ale names - Tanglefoot, Bishop's Finger, Hen's Tooth and King Tut's Tipple etc.

I'd be very surprised - and amused - if anyone found my name offensive. In fact I've always thought it rather cute, and the norty connotations just an added bonus. Although I don't think someone-who-shall-remain-nameless's dh is too keen

If people feel that they don't need to justify the fact that they swear in posts, then I don't have to justify the fact that I (usually) don't.

I say "usually" because I have used good old Anglo-Saxon words once or twice; it was me who swore at suzywong, although I have since apologised because it was over the top and inappropriate - I was "f*cked off", for want of a better expression and took it out on someone I shouldn't have done. It certainly wasn't pre-meditated swearing intended to shock or offend.
