Isn’t it just. Differing views are one thing, the level of hatred on some threads these days is something else. I’ve been here a decade and it’s completely different now.

I tend to make a mental note of those who ignore it when data sources or evidence is posted and then double down on their message. That tells me they are not posting in good faith. And there are sadly a lot like that.

It’s just, unfortunately, the nature of SM in general, which has trickled through to life in general too really imo, as SM plays an increasing role in our opinions and day to day lives.

I try to steer away from highly polarised discussions wherever possible. I’m not always successful, but it’s a sad fact of modern life it seems.

There are without doubt posters on here who are pushing certain agendas for certain foreign powers/interests. They tend to increase in number and intensity around events like the run up to elections, Brexit, etc, but they are always here trying to nudge the Overton window in a direction that suits other countries' agendas.

Some of them are very easy to spot and are quite amateurish in their language usage, for example. Others, I expect, are far more sophisticated and fly under the radar. I'm not sure what can be done about it, other than users reading posts with a certain degree of scepticism and ensuring they take in a wide variety of views, not just those that chime with their own pre-conceived views.

People wanting the site to revolve around their views than be open to everyone. Anyone who doesn't conform is a troll zzzz.

The extreme fat right have always preyed on people's fears along with they're to blame for xyz.
Only now that message reaches a wider audience than 30 + years ago with stickers,newspaper sales,po box numbers.
Obviously online reaches more people

Have you read 'This is Not Propeganda'? It's a really interesting book about bots and trolls and misinformation. The writer went out and visited literal offices full of people who are 'trolls for hire' - a lot of them sponsored by various governments or political parties to support their views (the one the writer visited was paid for by the Kremlin). These professional trolls are paid to go on well trafficked sites and spread certain perspectives and views which are in the interests of those paying.

I am absolutely certain a number will be active on this site as one of the most well trafficked sites in the UK. I've noticed similar patterns to a lot of these posts. It wouldn't surprise me one iota if Mr Farage (for example) spent a bit of Reform's recent £74m windfall employing a few trolls of his own and this is just the type of site they'd be able to make a lot of impact. Post repeatedly with different usernames filling whole threads with posts seemingly from different people but all amounting to the same thing. Make regular people active on the site think these are 'normal' views everyone else holds.

I pointed this out on a thread earlier and MY post was removed as apparently troll hunting isn't allowed? Beggars belief really.

Oh wouldn't it just. I've got a huge list just waiting to go on it. It would certainly help with filtering out repetitive words and phrases. As for the boring troll and bot hunting. Yes please MNHQ.

Exactly The rise of the far right is because the main parties are ignoring the concerns of people. So they are turning elsewhere for solutions. Of course they might not get solutions or the solutions might be worse than the problems.

I have reported today too under the MN guidelines of sharing misinformation as clearly one current poster is doing. Even when hard evidence is posted, it makes no difference to the lies told.
@Icanthinkformyselfthanks it is not about differing opinions, debate is good, personal experience allows us all to see the point of view of others, evidence and data is essential in backing this up but spreading lies is not beneficial to anyone. This is also supposed to be against MN guidance.

The poster I reported is also derailing threads. They end up being unconnected to the OP’s question/dilemma and taken over the PP’s views and lies. No challenge accepted by the PP where it is clear research or data supports a different view, just a ‘dig down’ or a change of tac onto the next point to make.

MN will lose its audience if posters such as the one I have mentioned are allowed to take over.

Women have to spend 99% of the day smiling and being kind and letting things go and performing good femininity. It's good to have a board to vent our spleen and unleash our most uncharitable thoughts.
