Agree with the first few posts - loads of bots/bad actors from other countries post about politics, in particular, which renders the whole board a 50/50 split of insane posts with wild opinions no one ever hears in real life and people who are annoyed about some minor inconvenience to a quieter component who actually want to talk about the nuances rather than spout GB news. I also find this on ME board - a lot of apparent Jews/Israel supporters acting very badly and calling names to anyone who even suggests they might have murdered anyone at all! I can't help but think the site is being used to stir hatred with these extreme threads generated continuously.

Yes it is a shame that being able to name change is being abused and used for means other than to seek help and support. It's ruining it for the genuine cases. I don't know how the site gets round that.

I think mumsnet is quite representative of opinions I come across in real life. It's good to let everyone speak. Silencing others just pushes opinions underground, it certainly won't change hearts and minds.

I think you have me mistaken. I don't believe in borders, my question was towards the bigot in hiding who is trying to shield her anti-immigrant opinions behind a veneer of 'reasonableness'.

Why do you not? By saying that you are implying that there is a limit for too many people who don't look like you being in the country. Why would that be a problem exactly? Please do share your reasoning, I am curious to know whether your excuse will be economic or cultural.

Amazingly enough, some people can hold more than one thought in their heads at the same time. It is not wrong to acknowledge the reality of who the dead person was and at the same time be appalled at their murder. Life isn't simple and black/white.

Well I suppose when you prioritise critiquing the behaviour of murdered people, over the behaviour of their murderers, it tends to leave a bad taste.

I agree that there were many unpleasant comments about Charlie Kirk and Anne Widdecombe. However, there were also attacks on anyone posting legitimate criticism of their politics and behaviour. It was as if performative mourning was the only acceptable response.

Yes, they were. Let’s not keep pretending that everyone with similar political views is equally hateful. There are right leaning posters here who manage to articulate their views without spite and venom, just as there are those at the other end of the spectrum who do the same.

People who knowingly whip that up are dreadful. The comments around the women who drowned earlier this year were horrific. Ditto the comments about the Huntingdon train attack and Southport. People use any adverse event to froth about evil immigrants. Then when they're shown to be wrong, they refuse to acknowledge that or veer into whataboutery.

Anti-immigration rhetoric should not be tolerated anywhere, least of all a public forum for anyone to view. It's not an 'opinion' its hate pure and simple and the government needs to clamp down on it, if nobody else will.
