It completely breaks up the flow of a thread. Do you really think we haven't got the brain power to read a post that's longer than two paragraphs?!

I've just quickly scanned the posts in site stuff but cannot see any requesting this - perhaps @AmeliaPMumsnet or someone from MNHQ could link to any threads requesting it so those of us that hate it can understand the rationale better?

Its still irritating even with the longer cut off. I can see the use with the quotes. But not on normal posts.

Actually it's more than irritating. I actively hate it.

Long quoted sections will continue to be collapsed, as we hope this will make lengthy posts in quotes easier to scan and read. They can still be expanded and collapsed using ‘See more’ and ‘See less’.

We hope this change is less intrusive while keeping the benefit for particularly long posts and quotes. Please let us know how you find it.

Why is it not optional?
I don't have any need for it, it's pointless and irritating.

Can it at least be optional for premium members?

And this, in one sentence, shows just how much Mumsnet has changed and is changing. No longer a place for discussion and debate. The introduction of 'feeling' emojis was a big influence - no longer do people have to bother with actual words - and now posts longer than a short paragraph are deemed too much for people to bother with.

I'm very glad that this 'feature' has been removed.

It seems like you want to favor scanning over people being fully engaged. Given how much poor reading comprehension contributes to absurd and repetitive comments, I’m not sure that’s a good call.

(Also, clearly, not a fan for my personal use of the site - even on a mobile).

Yes you can, you just can't be bothered.

It will be the same words, just with spaces for the hard of thinking.

"Could somebody summarise this for me"
No, read it or don't read it.

Or the old chestnut of "TLDR"

I think the scrolling problem was when you used to click to open a set of quotes and then they'd end up one letter long (which I see a fix has been released for) so it would be miles and miles long and there wouldn't be a way to collapse it again from the top.

You just don’t need it - what’s the point? Has anyone ever complained about reading posts longer than 5 lines?

The issue people had was with long quote histories, not long posts.

What interrupts the flow of a thread is having to constantly click on posts to read them - not the length of the post itself.

Please make it optional, if you have to have it.

And I READ threads. I don’t scan them.

Can this be removed? Absolutely no need for it and not sure why you want people to read threads LESS.
As a PP said, we're not 'scanning', we are reading. If people are incapable of that, there's probably more suitable sites for them.

It's bad enough that some people can't even be arsed to even read the OP (let alone any updates), but surely this will make it even worse as they will only read the text that appears before the cut off.

Look forward to many, many posts with "oops - didn't click the expand button"

It's actually easier, and puts less strain on joints, to scroll than to have to reach across the phone to click 'show more'.
