What's this 'show more/show less' nonsense for?!

@AmeliaPMumsnet bearing in mind a number of people have said all the extra clicking is causing them physical pain because of their disabilities, please remove it completely until we can turn off this "feature" - and work on making it an opt-in feature rather than an opt-out feature.

If getting more ad views are the reason for this abomination then I will make it my mission never to buy anything I see advertised on MN.

It probably is. The less time you spend actually reading a page, the more quickly you click on the next one, meaning the more quickly they can show you a fresh load of adverts.

In the short term, its a gain for Mumsnet, but if it turns enough people off the platform, it's likely to do long term to the website. There's defintitely been a drop in overall threads started over the last 6 months or so, this change isn't going to help with that

In terms of disability/accessibility, I already have finger splints on arthritic fingers. All this click-click-clicking is bloody awful. Badly done, MNHQ, badly done.

But I want to read full posts on threads where I have built familiarity/friendships.

I am now doing the same. Less engagement. Is this really what the advertisers want, Mumsnet?

It would be way more helpful to add it to all quotes of >3 lines. Utterly unnecessary in new posts though.

Get rid of the "load newer/older posts" button while you're at it, that's another pointless irritation.

And the even funnier thing is you've been caught too because any time you @ someone, it triggers it, even in a one line post!

I am also finding this “show more” feature unhelpful, although as others have said, it will be good if it cuts down the time I spend here.

I'd imagine a good 70% of my posts are likely to get caught.

I'm fairly quiet in real life, but I do tend to get a bit wordy on here!

So, I've just sat on Mumsnet on my hour long lunch break, and kept a running count of how many times I've had to press "Show More".

Now I'm a fast reader, and I've realised due to this new feature that my brain is still processing the previous post while my eyes are scanning the last post.

How have I realised this?

I've been mostly been reading the OPs posts, I've been hitting "See next" to get to the next one.

And 37 times I've hit "See next" before my brain has gone "Hang on, you missed the end of that", so I've had to scroll back up, sometimes to the previous page, to hit "Show More" and read the end of the last post.

Thats more than once every two minutes you've added a minor annoyance to my life Mumsnet. Every 97 seconds you're giving me a reason to go "You know what, I'm going to go do something else"
