Trans identified Mumsnet member AidaP is scraping Mumsnet

BambooLampshade · 28/04/2026 21:34

Hi Mumsnet, though you should know that a trans identified man - who often posts on Mumsnet as @aidap - is scraping the feminimism board, in order to create some sort of grading system.

It's basically electronic stalking.

What is this?

Oh yes, I have downloaded most of mumsnet and we will be doing embeddings of the content to try to understand how does the rot and hate builds and spreads.

I never had so much hate and delusion on my hard drive before 😅

This isn't really how it unfolded. I made the point that it's difficult to adopt the moral high ground when there has been some shitty conduct in the other direction recently. It used to be axiomatic on here (I'm a long-time lurker) but seems to have ceased to be.

The almost-universal response was that these things never happened. That's an untruth, and it invites a response.

The irony (among others) is that I agree that the poster subject of the thread is a piece of shit. I don't think men can change sex, I think there's unfortunately a minority of men posing as trans who are sexual predators.

I didn’t see the threads. If I had, I would have reported them, if they were as you describe.

be aware though, that you’re not allowed to say you’ve reported a thread as that counts as troll hunting, so you won’t know whether regulars have or have not reported a thread.

AStonedRose · 29/04/2026 12:14

MyAmpleSheep · 29/04/2026 12:10

The regulars either engage, or shrug their shoulders.

You are a regular. If you didn’t report the threads then you shrugged your shoulders. Sitting back and tutting under your breath doesn’t count.

Edited

I'm absolutely not a regular, these things keep popping up in my active threads. Maybe it would be better if they were hidden, if you would prefer to avoid dissenting voices?

As stated upthread, i called out posts that I thought were offensive, and reported them. I wasn't aware it was possible to report whole threads, but others have now explained this is possible.

Not clear how I've shrugged my shoulders?

Tarquinosaurus · 29/04/2026 12:13

Well AStonedRose it sure feels like women are being held to a different standard.

Men who spout death and rape threats get your nod of disapproval, sure. And then multiple pages of posts about the meanie women for worrying their boundaries are being breached.

And minorities can be pretty big, up to 49.9%.

So what you saying?

Odd that a post in Site Stuff about a now banned trolling poster has morphed into "no you're the mean ones!" because women can no longer trust that men will stay out of women's spaces.

@AStonedRose yes, you can report a whole thread.
You just report the actual OP and in the comments, you ask the mods to look at the thread as a whole.

That’s what I do.

BIWI · 29/04/2026 12:05

You can report a whole thread by reporting the OP. In your report to MNHQ you can say why you're reporting the thread, or be specific about certain posts.

Then it's up to MNHQ to decide a) to delete the whole thread or b) delete certain posts.

It's really important to understand that you can (and should) report posts and threads if you think they're against Talk Guidelines.

AStonedRose · 29/04/2026 12:01

MyAmpleSheep · 29/04/2026 11:56

Are you aware that threads only get examined after they are reported? You (yes you!) are an important part of the moderation process.

Sitting back and waiting for a thread that you think is harmful to disappear is like watching a house burn down and waiting for someone else to call the fire brigade.

So - did you report the threads you found objectionable?

I certainly reported individual posts, which were (eventually) deleted. I wasn't aware it was possible to report an entire thread - I think the moderators have to do that off their own back. i could be mistaken?

Again, my issue isn't with moderation. it's with the fact that these horrible threads pop up in the first place.

The regulars either engage, or shrug their shoulders. And then, because those threads can't be linked to, confidently assert there's no transphobia on Mumsnet. As multiple posters on this thread have demonstrated well.

Beautifulhaiku · 29/04/2026 12:01

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2026 08:12

Some transwomen are fetishists and some are predators. This is simple fact.

Some e.g. podiatrists are also predators or fetishists, it doesn’t mean I’m going to talk about them as if assuming they all are.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 29/04/2026 11:59

Helleofabore · 29/04/2026 11:04

So, you don’t keep records of these things… yet you then make direct accusations ?

People have things called memories, you know.
Although of course there's no way of "proving that" with time stamps, and copying links and saving them to archives or whatever.... but that's seemingly expected it seems what with the calls for them.
Yet this is a thread denouncing (rightly!) someone who seems to be doing exactly that type of thing.

Tarquinosaurus · 29/04/2026 11:57

AStonedRose · 29/04/2026 11:41

Ironically that's what the subject of the thread (who, to be clear, is an obvious piece of shit) has done. We would agree it is very poor behaviour.

But you can't then, in the same breath, insist on date and time stamps for instances of abusive and transphobic threads that have regularly popped up, and lingered for too long.

I have no issue with MN moderation, except that they seem slow to act on occasion. Again, ironically, others have said the same about the poster subject of this thread. I would be surprised if they were milking the situation for clicks.

This is so sad, because as someone who does want to debate this all I see on here is this.

In fact I see more people wanting to debate in good faith than hate, who are constantly shut down by people like you saying that they’re not entertaining a debate. And that seems to be true on every online forum.

I don’t understand the trans position, and my view is that they should not be discriminated against for being trans, all while being treated in all cases as their biological sex. I’d love to find someone that would try to change my mind - but it’s always the same brick wall you’ve put up.

It does lead me to question whether there is no debate to be had though, and people just don’t want to has their logic and beliefs trampled on by “terfs”.

Just catching up with this now-very-long thread.

my view is that they should not be discriminated against for being trans, all while being treated in all cases as their biological sex.

That makes you a TERF. Welcome!

Yes, there is Dadsnet and posters can't be banned for being male only.

Well yeah they can't ban someone for an anonymous identity that relies on the person admitting to/saying what sex they are.

If we suspected someone of being a man and they kept saying they weren't, we/MN wouldn't be able to prove it either way? Even though you do know.

Definitely post COVID.
Maybe the last year or two? Not that long ago.
You don't have to believe me. I don't care.
Not everyone sees a thread, acknowledges the date and time and writes it down/marks it on their phone or whatever it is you're imagining, maybe that's what you do, who knows.

Hi all,

Thanks for raising this, we’re aware of it and understand why it’s caused concern.

Scraping the site in this way isn’t permitted under our Terms of Use, and we’ll be taking appropriate action. The user in question was banned from Mumsnet a few weeks ago for breaching our Talk guidelines.

In terms of what’s actually involved, anything that can be scraped from the boards is content that is already publicly available on the site. It doesn’t provide access to private account information, email addresses, PMs or anything else behind the scenes.

We use many tools to scan for people scraping the site and block them when we spot them - but it is impossible to stop everyone who wants to do it - scrapers are often set up to look like a user just browsing the site. However, our tech team are investigating this particular case and doing all they can to try and identify the scraper and block it.

But of course we do appreciate that the idea of posts being aggregated or analysed elsewhere can feel uncomfortable, even where the underlying content is public. If that’s a concern for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch with us directly and we can look at a retrospective username change.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do get in touch and we’ll respond as fully as we can.

MNHQ

Thank you.

I'm very glad to hear he's been banned.

DeanElderberry · 29/04/2026 11:26

No, it is to see whether your accusation is founded in reality.

'fairly recently'. So post-Covid?

womendeserveequalhumanrights · 29/04/2026 11:25

Anyway, I'm done with a hypocritical derail which tries to shame a group of women for allegedly (with no evidence) behaving badly, and away from a man that has made rape threats online and who claims to be engaging in stalker-like behaviour against a wider group of women.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 29/04/2026 11:20

When was this? In the last week, the last year, the last decade?

It was fairly recently, why on earth do you need a time stamp?! Will that make it magically better? 😕

Helleofabore · 29/04/2026 11:20

womendeserveequalhumanrights · 29/04/2026 11:17

Generally speaking trying to shame people for doing the exact thing you're literally doing in plain sight is unlikely to be effective as it's quite hypocritical.

Reminds me of eco-campaigners telling us all not to fly as they jet around the world to climate conferences.

Yes.

And posting heart reaction emojis to posts where that can be construed as bullying behaviour is a sign that some posters don’t seem to be able to judge reasonable behaviour .
