Yep. It's just an inevitable consequence of the fact that GC relies on absolute objective fact. There are very few disputes where one side really is set in absolute objective truth and the other in absolute absurdity, but this is one of them and that's why this tired old method is so transparent.

You might perhaps disagree that calling to fuck women with splintered wood is an actual threat but no honest, good faith person will go from this to "so women do have knobs after all". It's ridiculous. Besides, what decent or honest person would see that debate - is this guy actually threatening women when he shouts about fucking them with splintered rolling pins? - and would decide that the greater offence lay with the women who said he was, and choose to align with the splintered rolling pin dude? Even if you don't think it's a threat, it's a perverse and sick thing to say, and it's certainly not comparable with taking it at face value.

So again these GC people have pushed me from erring on towards GC perspectives, to thinking the GC people make shit up.

Nobody, in the history of MN, has ever said that and been honest. It's a trope trotted out to attempt to discredit FWR posters / the GC perspective. If you really were erring towards GC perspectives, disagreeing with what was being discussed which did not directly refer to the GC arguments really wouldn't be enough to make anybody go, 'Nah, fuck it, TWAW and that's the end of it.'

I don't agree with everything everybody who's GC / a sex realist says. That isn't able to make me disagree with their GC / sex realist views, as they're views I do agree with.

I invite you to consider whether you would consider equivalent language that made light of types of violence that are strongly associated with racially motivated attacks or racial injustice aimed at a Black person as sanguinely as you do rhetoric rooted in sexual violence aimed at a female person.

He also posts several times afterwards making similar points that although he said "fuck [her] with a splintery rolling pin" it wasn't an actual rape threat, just demeaning and misogynist language that she deserves for being an uppity women so that is ok then. (I paraphrase but that is the gist).

Fair enough to miss one post but I am surprised given how active you were on the same thread at the same time you missed all the subsequent ones as well. You can see why I would have assumed you had seen it.

I think the “jumped the shark” comment is based on the fact the OP is about AidaP’s use of a particularly crude term and how awful it is, only for the thread to have now repeated it a hundred times or so, giving both Aida and the term much more air then they deserve.

Interesting point really. Others have said similar to you but I view it quite differently.

I see statements like “fuck bigots with a splintery rolling pin” as being more specifically about wishing (or at times threatening) women with rape. I don’t think this is just a sweary way of saying “go away”.

This particular group of people (TRAs) are very fond of making rapey threats towards women - eg/I’m going to choke you with my lady dick etc - along with the more mundane, “kill all TERFs” and so on. See attached image.

This latest delightful phrase fits beautifully with the usual violent language used by TRAs and aimed squarely at women.

I think a good acid test is often whether you’d hear a woman using the phrase. Plenty of women would say “fuck X person”. I can’t think of any woman who would say “fuck X woman with a splintery rolling pin”. It’s deeply violent imagery and even when women are disagreeing strongly with one another, this isn’t the type of language they typically use. Men on the other hand…..we all know they love these types of phrases.

There have been a few high-profile posters who post things on other SM platforms which wouldn't fly on MN. I don't really know how much that influences MNs moderation of their posts.

If they were posting that they were going to come over to MN to wind people up that would be a different matter!

I think we have to be careful not to confuse disagreement / differing views for trolling.

To be fair, although this person is clearly foul, I see what PP means.

If I were to say “fuck trump!” or “fuck bigots!” I’m not actually talking about the rape of trump or bigots. The rolling pin was a graphic addition but I think the point still stands.

If the person referred to then starts filling up threads with overtly malicious comments, then it more easily identifies their intent.

Endlessly letting them wind you up enough so that you then reply just provides them with an opportunity to post more of their self rewarding irrelevances.

So even if they stick on a thread they had no real interest in other than to wind FWRers up, it wont take long for everyone to just skip over anything in their name.

The purpose of this thread is to ask Mumsnet considers where to drawn a line with posters who have maligned intent as demonstrated elsewhere.

I think uniquely this applies to a specific board ergo FWR, where many women have had experience of violent and dangerous men.

I would not wish to have a blanket ban on men on Mumsnet, and i am a member of the FSU. However there is a limit to free speach as recognised in law albeit a high bar.

I think it is entirely within mumsnet gift to ban the poster in question without risk of repercussions.

I usually tolerate the presence of people who think they are women and their handmaidens on the board as it helps for useful debate and information sources.

As an aside i think that the name Mumsnet has clear connotations that fall within the scope of the FWS SC as a service provider.

But that is not yet an avenue that would need pursuit.

How are people banned for posting fake-but-amusing parking threads but a bloke that talks about raping women with a splintery rolling-pin seen as 'oh so hilar' on a women's forum? 🤨

I'm currently on the fence re my view of a ban (I dislike bans generally) but getting popcorn out? Defending the guy? Seriously?
