Site continually crashing and reloading

The constant crashing and reloading is driving me mad.

No idea @JaneJeffer but it's driving me up the wall. Seems to have lost active conversations too!!

What does too many redirects mean? Anyone know?

I changed a while ago to DuckDuckGo. If mumsnet come on here and say they think they've fixed it then I try safari again, find it doesn't work and go back to DuckDuckGo.
I'm not entirely unreasonable, I understand that they want ad revenue, and if the site worked reasonably well on Safari then I'd be happy to use it and accept seeing ads. But it doesn't.

Oh, and I get 19 trackers blocked when I load a page with DuckDuckGo.

It’s gotten worse these past few days.

Gosh, that is quite sobering. Have MN satisfied themselves that all these nosey parkers will use our data ethically?

It is the sheer number of trackers and companies doing ad bidding. I just took a screenshot. All these are following every word you write, any comment you make, then leaving cookies and other pieces to follow you even after you leave MN.

Well the funny thing is, I've resisted doing this, as I know MN want the ad revenue, and I don't begrudge them that and am happy to see adverts as the quid pro quo of me using the site. I don't want to pay for yet another subscription, so it seems a good trade off, provided the ads don't interfere with reasonable use of the site.

But they really, really don't seem to want me or other users to be able to see the adverts while using the site, do they! They've had months to sort it but haven't bothered to do so.

Shooting themselves in the foot, as I'm now seriously considering giving DuckDuckGo a go, after months of patience that is now running out.

Use DuckDuckGo and you can browse MN easily, without any ad or reloading.

Yes, it hasn't improved at all. I mostly read on my iPhone, which I turn landscape, as it's easier to read the text. As soon as I do that - reload.

If I try to enlarge the text - reload.

Scroll down a few messages - reload.

Come across one of the numerous video ads that are now stuffed everywhere on the page - top, sides, bottom, between posts - reload.

Try to leave a comment - reload (with the message you typed lost).

I mean, come on, this is not a good user experience! Why don't they care??

I'm reading and posting a lot less these days, which is MN's loss and my gain, but it would be nice to have the choice to use the site as intended when I want to.

Constant refreshing happening STILL. It’s been months now. It makes reading threads virtually impossible 🤬

Jumping around the site. I'm on thread returns me to the day before rather than the three posts I haven't read.

I'm on here much less just a few favourite threads I'll persevere with.

I note MN have STILL not given any idea when this will be fixed.

Today's fresh hell now involves my Mac, which previously wasn't so much of an issue. Now, when I type a message, half way through, suddenly my screen is taken over by a full screen video ad. Wtf!

Why?

How is any of this meant to enhance our user experience?

Much more of this and they won't have a user base to sell anymore.

I mean, why don't they test things properly before unleashing them on the live site?

I’m late to this thread. I’m on iPad on safari. I thought this was a problem with my iPad but it only happens on mumsnet website. I’d resigned myself to going away and doing other things while waiting for the adverts to load. It seemed to be that the pop up ads at the bottom of the screen were really slow to load and the page just freezes with loads of blank sections whilst they load. However, today is even worse. I’ve just had advert pop ups covering one side of the thread as well as the pop up in the bottom right corner. These are in addition to the usual ads in amongst the thread.
Seems to have gone again for now but it was ridiculous. It’s starting to look like one of those scammy nothing but adverts sites you sometimes wander onto by mistake.

Well, I'm finding that the site now works on Apple devices for me, when it really didn't for a few years.

However, on all types of devices there's now an issue with pages "freezing" occasionally, sometimes for several minutes - I think this is due to slow-loading adverts. Surely these ads could be compressed so that the site still works?

^100% yes to all this. Bookmarks not working either. It’s a real chore using this site, and one I’m less and less inclined to do. Particularly in view of the scant involvement from mn staff.

It’s bloody diabolical again this evening freezing reloading landing back on the page you’ve previously read trying to get on another thread is like watching paint dry eating my battery & iPad becoming very hot only on MN doesn’t do it on any other site🤬

Page reloading is still extremely frequent and annoying though. I do rush to close every video but it still happens. Usually goes back to the top of the page, pretty sure sometimes it goes back to the previous page. Long running threads are really hard to follow now.

If this problem in response to video ads is going to be integral to the user experience, Could MN help users to compensate by introducing a ‘scroll down to the end of the page’ button to allow us to find our places again more easily?

Quick update to say private messages are working normally again, phew.

Can anyone else having these problems please check their private messages on MN? I’m assuming this is related but now when I open up PMs I can only see one thread at the top of the list, the page can’t be scrolled down. I know there are several threads in there.
And to make it worse I can only view four (Half the width of the page) lines of the conversation at any one time because this is how the display is letterboxed between all the other MN bumf on the webpage.
Please MN I really need to be able to see ALL my list of messages to find an important contact that was shared with me via DM a few months ago. I need to be able to view the threads in PM normally.
The PM function is essentially unusable at the moment. Please could you fix it. I have not changed how I access the site so it’s not at my end whatever is going wrong here. Please help.

Also when on safari I have to close the tab and then reopen another.

I’ve since downloaded DuckDuckGo app as suggested on another thread and it works brilliantly.

What video player? There isn't a video player just a blank screen.

Here's a selection of 'Mumsnet has frozen and I have to close safari' pictures from last night and this morning. None of them have a video player to close.

This is constant again, over and over again, can barely get through a page of posts without it freezing and it freezes all my other tabs that I have open too
