Anyone know of a user friendly site similar to Mumsnet?

Where do you find the supposed fake posts on MN? I originally was mostly in the book forum - and no fakes there, as far as I can tell.

The problem with Reddit is that it's utter chaos.

Given the accelerating shittification of this site I am spending more time on Reddit these days. I am fine with the ads. It’s the fake posts that irritate me most.

At least if you go on Reddit you’ll recognise some of the fake posts from there!

These are chat forums, and it seems to me that anyone someone wants to chat about should be find, as long it's not endangering or attacking someone.

On top of that, and on top of it being a corporate entity, not a person whose feelings might be hurt, the MN mods seem to be interested and attentive and, for all I know, might find they learn something in our comments about other forums.

No, the ads come from MN (well, the shitty ad networks Mumsnet takes money from).

Some browsers can successfully block them without triggering the "Either give us money directly or let our dodgy ads hijack your browser and download malware" banner.

Mumsnet has been hacked in the past because its system design and security practices were "my first IT project" levels of amateurism. I believe the response from MNHQ was little more than "Oops. You'll probably want to reset your passwords".

I agree. I cannot think of any other user created content site I visit where the ad framework is the cause of so many basic usability and accessibility issues and inappropriate (for the site) content issues.

Each time there is a change it breaks aspects of accessibility, each time these accessibility issues are reported its dismissed with “we tested it” or “we are compliant” (aka the free code checker didn’t pick anything up).

I use DuckDuckGo browser on my phone and have never seen an ad on MN.

Reddit is no longer usable IMO because most of the posts are bots/AI content.

I use the app on iPhone and iPad and I don’t get any of the problems posters are talking about. I scroll past any ads, there’s no flickering and loading all the posts on a thread is instant. The actual website sounds very cumbersome.

I don’t like seeming to be rude, either. But I’m done with being asked over and over again for my ‘device and browser’ and for ‘screenshots’. Can’t be arsed with the faux innocence of it any more.

MNHQ has had reams of feedback, repeatedly. It knows the issues, and why they are issues. I think users have been very loyal and patient over the years, even through hacking and data dramas.

But, like you say, we’re now in unusable territory for many.

Yes! I mean, it would be better if one could find the right sub-reddit at all! I haven't run into the comfort problem. But the forums are chaos because it seems that users can create them randomly. Why, for instance, should there be separate forums for Vintage Computers versus Vintage Computing?

And, yes, the greatest virtue of MN, to me, is the excellent mods here.

I use a laptop, Firefox browser, ad-blocker. It's all fine. Works for Mumsnet and Youtube.

YouTube on my Android smartphone (where, apparently, adblockers are forbidden) is hopeless.

@NoCommentingFromNowOn can I ask how you read updates on busy reddit threads? It’s the only thing I find difficult. I read a thread, great, then go back 24 hours and just want to read the new posts (without trawling through everything I’ve already read). Is that possible?

I quite agree tbh. I know mnhq used to remove some threads and posts like these but they're probably tired of walling off these discussions. Lol I know many forums don't allow them either.

Because we (British) don't seem to want to open any ourselves. We'd just rather complain and complain, then do nothing or join the US sites. Twas ever thus.
