We use one of the most advanced tools currently available, but as with any automated system, it’s not perfect, which is why we don't rely on it in isolation and we're actively strengthening our approach.

What do you mean ‘if’ they’re flagged for review? I don’t think a basic AI screening filter is going to be good enough anymore, particularly regarding the Online Safety Act.

Cyberflashing is a criminal offense under Section 66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, as inserted by the Online Safety Act 2023. I imagine ‘enabling’ could include not applying any/or sufficient protection to prevent it.

As these disgusting images always seem to appear overnight UK time and there is no paid moderation during those hours, maybe the next step is to ban images from being posted between 2300-0700.

Whichever way you look at it, security just isn't good enough if this is still happening. And clearly, using AI because it's cheaper than actually employing someone, isn't effective either!

All images are run through the filter before appearing on the site (this is why there is a slight delay when posting images). If the AI deems it okay, then it appears. Images that are flagged for review are not shown on the site until approved by a moderator. In this case, the image was not flagged for review, which we are investigating.

Hi all. We're currently investigating why this image wasn’t blocked by our filters. It was posted at 6:23 am and removed shortly after 8 am.

Unfortunately, Mumsnet does attract a number of men who believe it's appropriate to post explicit images. Since introducing image filters, these posts have been successfully screened and blocked - until now. We're looking into why this one got through. To clarify - it was not approved by a moderator!

There should really be an option to report an obscene photograph as a specific category. I also can’t understand how it got approved in the first place but it’s almost as bad that it’s taking so long to delete. I would have hoped MNHQ would be faster with this kind of thing following the whole CSA image debacle

Think they just pressed approve to a load of photographs without individual scrutiny? No image is automatically uploaded and always under review until it is manually approved
