What’s up with the MN app?

It’s suddenly frozen. Everything else on my phone is working as normal. (Have had to go back to the mobile site to write this.)

I understand that, @MsDDxx. The issue is that the app itself is supposed to switch to the username one is already using in a thread. Currently it isn’t switching to the appropriate name, and won’t allow me to switch to it within the thread, so I’m having to discard my already written comment; go into Settings and change to the right name; then go back to that thread and write the post again.

This is something completely new that started yesterday. I would hardly be complaining about something that has pertained for ages!

It’s been doing the same thing to me since the start of the new app. Can’t name change off this name AT ALL on the app. Having to use website if I NEED to change name.

Hi again,

We’ve just released a new version of the iOS app - the latest version is 45.1.1.
This update includes a fix for the issue affecting iPad users, where the side menu (including followed topics) was overlaying everything and couldn’t be dismissed without fully quitting the app. Thanks for your patience while we sorted this.

The update should be rolling out to users shortly. If you don’t see it right away, you might be able to go to the App store and update manually - though it may take a bit of time to appear for everyone.

If you spot anyone still posting about the issue, do feel free to point them here. And as ever, let us know if you’re still having problems after updating. Thank you.

Quick update on the username issue for @Preciousssssss and anyone else with the same problem. We have released a fix for this now, but it looks like the update isn't working immediately for everyone. Could you try completely quitting the app and then reopening it? You might need to do this a couple of times, but then the update should work and the username issue should stop being a problem.

Morning, everyone. We thought we had fixed the freezing issue so we're sorry to hear this is still a problem. We're having trouble recreating the issue so we wanted to ask if people are doing anything in particular before the freezing happens? So are you taking a certain action/a series of actions right before the freezing occurs? Does the freezing seem to occur just on one page, i.e. on a topic page, a thread or active or is there no real pattern to it? Anything more anyone can tell us might help us to work out what's going on here.

We're also aware of the issue some users are taking about on iPad where the following menu is opening. We're looking to recreate and fix this now.

@JaneJeffer if you could send us a screen video of what happens when you try to post and share it with us at [email protected] we'll take a look.

My app updated on my iPad iOS 18.5 today.

keeps coming up with this randomly when I hit the icons at the bottom of screen. So I hit active and this show and I can’t get to active threads, I can only select a topic

if I close the app and reopen it works active and other button work again ok again for a while before it starts again

Why has the app suddenly changed? (IOS).
Yesterday I could "agree" with a comment now there's only a "thanks" available.
I could also go to the OP's next post easily but it seems you have to view all of their posts together now, I liked reading others comments after each OP's updated post.
I have deleted the app and re-installed it (which when I downloaded it again it said the app had been updated 2 days ago) but it's the same.
Is this just how it is now? Seems to have gone backwards to me.

when it does work bookmarks aren’t working still

That’s normal, you can only post under the username you’ve already used on that thread. That was brought in some months ago to avoid posters name changing halfway through a thread and “trolling”.

@JoMumsnet I’d be very grateful if someone could look into this latest issue!

I post and name change often, so may be on several threads concurrently under different names. Usually the app manages this for me - automatically switching to whichever name I started posting on a thread with.

Now it’s all fallen apart! I’m having to go into Settings to manually change names time after time - and it’s incredibly tedious.

We've just pushed out an update that should resolve the freezing issue. You may need to delete the app and reinstall it again for the update to kick in - can anyone still experiencing these issues, please uninstall and reinstall the app?
