It was so clear, the way it constantly escalated and the OP kept saying but should I stay while the supposed behaviour escalated.

I reported it to MN and said it wasn't even hidden with how obviously fake it was but they clearly left it up for the clicks, which I even suggested in my report. It's clear they won't remove even an obviously fake thread if its driving traffic.

People asked why people care if its fake but some posters invested hours into giving advice, a couple in particular were very vocal on the threads and I felt bad they wasted so much time on what was clearly utter rubbish.

I read thread one and didn’t twig - it was really quite mundane - bloke plays football and is a dickhead, did it escalate from there?

There are also subreddits set up for people to laugh at mumsnet. They like to play little games like seeing whether they'll be spotted as a troll, how outrageous they need to be before we twig, or as I suspect in this case, seeing if they can set a record for how many responses they can get.

After all the talk of Thai massage parlours and happy endings, the fact the OP’s final post said she just wanted a “fairytale ending like in the movies” felt like the point where they just couldn’t keep a straight face anymore

I didn't think it was a genuine thread so am not surprised and don't care that it's gone.

The first two threads seemed possible but unlikely.

By thrle third one onward, it was very obvious that it was complete rubbish.

I got a post deleted for saying "no one can be this stupid".

It's a very sad reflection on someone's life if fake threads if how they get their thrills.

Agreed...Fast moving can well mean fiction- Especially sex based topics.

At the risk of emphasising my duff-ness, can anyone tell me why someone would put so much time, effort and mental energy into running a post about an entirely fake scenario? I mean, I just can't even begin to fathom out what someone would achieve by doing this?

It could be anything from mental illness to loneliness 🤷‍♂️

Yes, DH was the star player in his Sunday league. He bragged to his football friends about having anal sex with OP, sexually harassed a younger teammate’s sister so badly that he was banned from the pub where she worked, had a secret stash of Viagra, frequented strip clubs (and often went missing from the group on boys’ nights out), and went to massage parlours that only accept cryptocurrency. OP’s MIL backed her boy and told OP to look the other way. Am I missing anything?

I don't know about the oliver's army thread but sad widow was one that I knew from another chatboard, way back and she was a genuine (but overreaching) person who had this absolute determination to put herself in the saviour role.

Oliver's army years ago was all BS and so were the sad widow threads, but people fell for them. As for the threads in question today I read the first one thought what bollocks and didn't bother reading anymore.
Maybe the poster who wrote the threads is a) a wannabe author or b) just an attention seeker either way id say find something better to do love

I'll still respond if I think the thread is generating an interesting discussion despite its OP being a figment of someone's lively imagination.

Real 'trolling' is something I understand to be far more sinister than just making up silly stories. It seems on MN its meaning has become diluted somehow. But trolling, in the real, old-fashioned sense of that word is corroding this site far more than the fantasists, IMO.
