Shouldn’t the clap and the thumbs up be the other way around?

I would actually find it quite interesting to see who had disagreed with me.

Perhaps we could give people the option of hiding all reactions if they're of a sensitive nature and don't want to see them?

It's wishful thinking anyway, as MN are not going to give us a WTF button, no matter how much some of us would like it. So those who don't like the idea need not worry.

If the emojis were anonymous it would be even easier to follow a poster around putting poo on everything they write without the poster being able to call them out for it.

The problem with emojis is that they are specifically targeted at that poster and that poster alone, as they are the only person who can see them. Nice when it's positive, not so nice when it's not.

As I said up thread, I'd like a thumbs down option. If people are worried about seeing which posters have given a thumbs down/thumbs up etc- why not just remove that option to see who sent it @MNHQ?

What is the purpose of being able to track who gave what emoji?

I have the same person that seems to like every, single post I've ever made! I only know if I open the daily update thing I get emailed. TBH, its a bit weird and I'd prefer the emojis were anonymous.

It must be a hangover from that utter nonsense when clapping meant “thank you NHS”.

For me, there’s not a lot of difference between any of them: they’re just four different “like” symbols. I don’t mind the “laugh” one, and I feel honoured when someone uses it with me.

The difference there is you can see the names of people who put emojis on your post and you can't see those who vote against you so it feels less personal/targeted, I think.

There have already been complaints about posters passive-aggressively putting 'laugh' emojis on serious posts from posters they don't like. You could really piss someone off by following them around the site putting poo on all their posts.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'm self aware enough to know already that people will disagree with me on some topics, and my ego doesn't depend on the approval of random strangers.

I don't really see the difference between getting a load of WTF emojis in response to a particular post and a resounding YABU vote. Lots of OPs already get their arses handed to them on a plate.

I end up pressing the wrong emoji nearly every time, because of this. I'm glad someone brought it up.

Absolutely - it would be abused and frequently not come across in the jokey way that it was intended.

Oh, I'm not afraid of saying when I disagree. But sometimes, when posters are really just posting a load of shit, I just can't be arsed.

Yep, I tend to get thumbs up and clapping on the same posts. I think everyone's a bit confused about how they should be used.

I wasn't in agreement with being able to just like a post, I think there was a lot to be said for people having to use their words, but it's gone that way now so I think they need to be more options

Everyone saying 'I want a poo emoji' is thinking about them casually flinging it at other posters.

Can you imagine how devastating to your ego it would be to discover that your (self-imagined) carefully crafted gems of wisdom that you sprinkle over the site are actually as welcome as Ebola?

Would the poo emoji - for when you disbelieve the veracity or good faith of the poster - count as troll-hunting?

The clap symbol for me is "well said". Have used it several times recently, as no better option available, even though it is worded "thanks". To me, 'I agree' would be a tick or handshake symbol. The thumb up, I would generally think of as a more casual 'okay' or 'that's good'.
