Deleting the regular information roundup on the Ukraine War Threads.

Mumsnet what on earth are you playing at?

I have done a roundup of information from 4 different Ukraine news outlets for THREE years now, almost every day. You know this. You've seen it, the thread has been reported when unpleasant people invade the thread; it's one of the most long running threads in Chat. It serves a purpose.

Today, in your infinite and oh so great wisdom, you decided to delete the 20 minutes' work I'd done on the Kyiv Independent Telegram thread.

This is the message I got:
Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch. We have checked and in fact deleted your post altogether because it was really just a wall of cut and paste links rather than a considered contribution to the discussion.

These threads have been useful to people for 3 years. They are read and commented on and the curated information, I've been told, is useful. On the basis of these threads as a whole, one person even put together a vanload of supplies and took it to Ukraine.

They take hours and hours of my time.

If you had a problem with the posts, then why start now and not three years ago?

Please restore it.

Wow, that's kinda ridiculous, we're not writing essays for uni here. Glad they backtracked because those info roundups are so helpful.

Not hard to guess, when the official reason given was "We have checked and in fact deleted your post altogether because it was really just a wall of cut and paste links rather than a considered contribution to the discussion."

Thanks for the update Mumsnet, adding my voice to the usefulness of the daily news updates on Ukraine. Many of us can’t bear being on x now and so access to credible information is really helpful.

i’d add that, in an era of disinformation and deliberate propaganda by bad actors, the help from mumsnet in not allowing disinformation to spread unchallenged is more important than ever- so any threads which provide substantiated updates are really, really necessary.

Yes, this is so important.

I'm sorry for losing my temper, and at Mumsnet Hope. The situation in Ukraine is one that covertly or openly affects everyone now, even if many people dont realise it yet, they do provide a service I feel, and I admit I've sunk heart and soul into them.

It's much appreciated that the situation will be rectified and I hope won't happen again.

Either a Russian shill or you have failed to realise that you don't in fact have to open and read every thread on the board in order to be on Mumsnet at all. I'm amazed you have time to post anything while busy reading the whole of Chat, AIBU, Becoming a Parent, Being a Parent, Books, Childcare, Education, Feed the World, and all the rest.

Tell you what, HauntedBungalow: if you think it's one of the worst parts of Mumsnet, just scroll on by. (Only a suggestion; you might after all be a practising masochist with far too much time on your hands.)

@JoMumsnet thank you for that. I usually catch up on them when I have time to digest them properly and fully appreciate the work that goes into them.

Between that and being told off on another thread without specific examples of poor behaviour being given on another thread, it's starting to feel as though mnet is losing to the Trump juggernaut.

Perhaps a voucher for wine and flowers should find its way into Ducks inbox by way of an apology.

Ukraine is a very very hot topic and the driving force behind the war, Putin, is actively trying to attack the EU in hybrid and sometimes physical ways.

Providing information is a valuable function and Mumsnet has been a place where the information has been accessible to many.

Providing the links allows people to track the information back to source, if they want to do their own research.

Why remove posts with them?

In the past Mumsnet have actually made small changes to make posting links easier. I've posted on Site Stuff before about it. At that point Mumsnet seemed to support the threads.

What's changed? Why have you made this decision now, especially now? I don't for a moment suggest anything nefarious, but it's very bad timing at this point and just - why?

This is a perplexing decision by MNHQ - the posts don't seem to be breaking any T&C - and rather than not being 'considered contributions' are widely appreciated by other posters [and lurkers] on the threads over several years

Agree with almost all of the above.

I’ve found the long running daily updates highly informative and I know they have been a major spur to further discussion on the subject.

I can’t quite work out why only now someone at MNHQ has a decision been made that they are somehow inappropriate, and have to wonder what prompted it.

These daily round-ups form the basis of comment and conversation between posters. If this is a violation of policy, how has it been allowed the past 3 years? Why now and at such a critical juncture?
